Man! I wish I had one of those tapered bore compressors 3 days ago. We are building a 2017/2017 Camaro - Cadillac ATS 2.0L turbo with 1000 HP ZZP pistons. I didn't even know about this trick little need to have tapered bore compressor until I literally just watched this video. ....Great stuff. I am going to buy one when we pull our engine out in a few weeks to upgrade our cams.

I agree I dumped the old adjustable ones years ago. I have however seen one or two individuals use an oil filter wrench for rings in my travels 😂

This sounds wonderful. But if you are working on small engines. ( Lawnmowers). It is very difficult to find these types of piston rings compression tools in the sizes needed.

cone type compressors are the best but sometimes it can be tough finding the right size

I wouldn't say they are inexpensive, ARP is charging $50-60 for one of those sleeves. I'm going to try a proform sleeve for $30.

Ha!! Your gear is so cheap. I paid 110$ here in NZ for mine. BUT Id rather not break rings or ringlands or muck around. Money well spent :)

I liked your video , but using the tapered one was so fast. I didn't see it close up. 2 questions. Does the tapered part go inside bore, physical or just sit on edge of bore or at top? I saw you just drop it in easy and didn't seem, to line anything up. What I miss?

The tapered compressor makes it really easy. When you slide the piston into the tapered compressor it compresses the rings and bottom of the piston skirts hang out the bottom of the tool. When you lower the piston/rod and ring compressor into the bore the part of the piston hanging out of the tapered compressor aligns the piston with the bore. The tool does not protrude into the bore, it just lays on the deck. When you push the piston down into the bore the rings don't have the space to pop back out until they're in the cylinder. It's really the easiest and lowest risk way to do the job IMO.

Hi Sir, I need some help on my project .This is what I need, but i dont Know what the size of piston ring compressor to fit on my 1980 AMC concord or Eagle 4.2 liter engine straight six. the bore size of cylinder is 3.75 inches or 95.25 mm . +David Stennett unless you are machining to a bigger bore, in which case you would want to match the ring compressor to the piston size you are going up to
