I very rarely write any comments in a video, but man...I gotta say this is by far the best tutorial on real time lighting in Unity I've seen to date. Just by applying all the concepts and tricks you gathered in this video, and playing with it, you can achieve an amazing look for your game. Thanks for putting all this in a clear and concise video. Keep up the good work you've been doing!

The filmic color management setting is a system that is more realistic in the way that it manages color. most systems use a linear system but our eyes have more of an exponential decrease in sensitivity to light, with us being more sensitive to changes to a dark scene than to a bright one. because of this there is a lot of wiggle room for brightness in light that we cant even tell is there. filmic uses a bit of math to fix this shifting everything down to follow a curve that closely matches the eyes meaning the lighting will look more realistic. it also fixes issues like clipping when colors are to bright and some other things

A little correction about the video - the pixel light count is ignored with deferred, so you didnt need to bump it up. Deferred supports virtually unlimited (limited only by hardware performance) amount of lights right away without any tweaks.

I became really curious about how realtime lighting works in Unity after getting into No Rest for the Wicked's early access. The lighting in that game is all real time and very dynamic as the time of day changes in the game. It is pretty weighty on performance, but it is stunningly beautiful and still playable. I know the developers are continuing to optimize the game. Frame rate stutters while traversing between the different areas on the map seems to be an issue even for high end computers. It's also an isometric game so seeing this Mayan layout from a similar camera angle gives a good perspective on how it's probably done in No Rest for the Wicked which uses the Unity engine too.

Good video. What about making a video about pre-computed realtime lighting? Or even the mix between the two. A video about using both, static and non-static lights, using both the Baked and Pre-computed realtime lighting system. Using a directional light with its mode set to "Mixed". A video about optimizing the scene with both kinds of lighting. Perhaps a good scenario would be an indoor scene with windows. And through those windows, a directional light would cast nice shadows on the interior.
@Flopsaurus

YES. This is what I expected the video to be about. Baked, mixed, and realtime light settings are confusing.

@lilwage6910
@lilwage6910 4 жыл бұрын
Post processing has changed in Unity. There's a comment on the previous video about baked lighting that explains the difference. You have to use the post processing package from the package manager instead of going to the asset store, and then follow this written guide: github.com/Unity-Technologies/PostProcessing/wiki/Quick-start Basically you add a Post-process Layer component to your camera, and create a new 3D Object -> Post-process Volume, which you set to be in a layer that you then reference in your camera's new component. It's in that object that you add the Post-process Profile which you then configure with the desired effects. It's a bit more complicated than it was back in 2018 but I think this is to allow post processing to happen only when the camera is within the boundaries you set in your Post-process Volume

A spot light with a projection mask texture and real-time shadows enabled would be good on the door IMO. I've never liked seeing shadows/lighting that doesn't look like its coming from the source properly. Also would love to see a tutorial on how to merge baked and real-time lighting in an optimal/correct way.

@creationsmaxo

Since 2020, the option is now embedded into Unity's graphics settings. You have to set the option to "Use Graphics Settings" on the camera, then, in the Graphics menu (in the project settings), you make sure the "Use HDR" is active (checked) on all Tiers of your targeted platform(s).
