The house in rural Massachusetts was originally built by the owner of The Yankee Candle Company, named Michael Kittridge. He was dying of cancer and built the house as his dream house with the time he had left. It's a sad but also kind of great story. He built the house to party with his friends. Kittridge loved people and loved living the high life. The resulting house isn't exactly "classy", but it certainly would be fun to live there. It's in rural Massachusetts because that's where his business was and that's where he felt comfortable. It's actually a beautiful area. I don't think he gave a shit about resale when he built it. It was for him and his friends.

The guy that built the house with the indoor water park owned Yankee Candle, he's from Holyoke which is right near by. Crazy estates in New England are typically passion projects by home grown rich folk, not developers hoping to hawk them onto ultra wealthy transplants. There are places like this scattered randomly all over the region in small out of the way places because there is just a very different wealth culture in New England. Our Cities are also geographically quite small. LA proper runs about 50 miles from North to South. Just the LA metro area is more than 3 times the total land area of Massachusetts. People don't get rich and then move to Boston. It is far more common get rich in Boston with the goal of not having to live in Boston you go build a crazy dream home in some random small town because that is the whole point of New England our random small towns are the best part they always have been.

13:25 - golly, I can't believe the utter lack of planning on the exterior levels! At this frame, on the lower right, we can see all the A/C units! They look like they were just thrown there at the last minute. Like, the builders were done and someone said "Um, did we install the central air?" Then they all scrambled for the units, threw them in the corner and ran before the owner showed up. Tacky! And I count (from my POV) a whopping nine units. A single unit could have an impact of $100-200 a month on your overall electric bill. So we multiply that and the amount soars to almost $900-1,800 a month. Wow.

regarding the 139 million dollar house and the fire hazard. It would cost like.. 60k to install a system that would keep fire at bay for over 48 hours straight btw. Add in another 20k and you can increase that number to 72+. A normal gardening sprinkler system will do wonders, but a system built for it would just keep it safe for enough time so the fire would naturally stop around it. Get the neigbours in on it too..bump it up to a million and you save then entire hill top.
@tfdeeropoooppgn14 күн бұрын
Great point. They literally have a pool which has how many gallons of water? I mean even in case of power failure they would have enough pressure in the system to put some fires out.
