I’m definitely starting to rethink this too. 70% of the deer I’ve killed in Georgia have been in the afternoon/evening . But when I’ve killed in the mornings it’s been late season.
@johngarnergarner67246 ай бұрын
This is a great question. And there's really no perfect answer. It really does depend on where you are. I have been a deer hunter for 45 years. I live in central North Carolina but hunt also in southern Va, SC and, for the last few years I've hunted West Virginia. I've never hunted Georgia but it seems that Georgia has very similar terrain as does NC. For example, we have lots of pines that are mixed with hardwoods. Early season I like to sneak in the hardwood bottoms and find areas where acorns are dropping. I see lots of deer movement early in the morning and have more success in the mornings. Early season it is very hot and as a rule of thumb the deer movement is over by 9:00 in the morning. In the late afternoons during archery season the deer will move just at twilight, so I like to set up and ambush deer as they are moving to a feeding area. So, I like to set up near bean fields for example and I've had a lot of success when deer are coming out to feed. Toward the end of the video David mentioned how thick some of the areas are here in the southeast. He's absolutely right. So many times I'm up in my stand and look down and, wow, where did that buck come from. They sneak up on you here. Anyhow, that's good stuff. But for me the answer is "morning".

Since he doesn’t really give an answer, I’ll give my two cents: IT DEPENDS ON THE TIME OF YEAR AND WHAT TYPE OF AREA YOU ARE HUNTING. During the rut, I’ve killed most of my big deer between 10am and 2pm. During pre or post rut, you can’t beat that last hour of daylight, especially if you’re hunting over a food source. Mornings are really only productive in my neck of the woods if you are hunting next to where they bed down during the day.

I hunt central and south Alabama, I’ve found I see more bucks in the mornings usually within the 1st hour or less of daylight cause they’ve been up feeding all night and I’ll catch them headed back to bed down , when the rut is on, I’ll stay from dark til dark cause it can literally happen at anytime during the day, i see bucks in the evenings but it’s more obvious in the mornings in my expierience

Ive only been hunting since '06 but based on my personal experiences in multiple Midwest states ive never gotten a deer prior to 10AM. The vast majority have been between 10:30-1:30 and a big handful last hour of legal shooting light. Didn't matter weather it was early/mid/ late season
@HuntZoneAmerica6 ай бұрын
Great observations! Where you are hunting along with time of year and weather play a big part. Also if you are hunting one certain deer his patterns feeding, working scrapes and so on can dictate a morning or evening or sometimes all day dawn to dusk. Good luck this season. Happy Independence Day!

Morning only. I'm not tracking game after dark anymore and then skinning til 10 pm before even getting supper and a shower. But I'm fortunate to have a fantastic hunting lease along a river and a blind that I can get in and out of without spooking deer off of my plot. I watch deer every time I'm in the blind and often walk in on them before daylight and get my binoculars out and glass the silhouettes of deer until daylight when I can identity the ones I know from trail cam pics. I've harvested 3 wall hangers in 3 years from this setup. Now I'm going to lay off of the bucks and see just how many I can get to reach maturity.
@backwoodshunter.2439Ай бұрын
Did the same thing on my property a few years ago. Didn’t pull the trigger on a buck for 3 years to let them mature. What a difference. The average deer on my farm 3 years ago was 120-130 inches. Now there are several that are well over 160
@paulbernitt42806 ай бұрын
Food sources are better afternoon spots simply due to the deer being in the fields in the dark. Rut funnels can be all day in the prerut. Knowing deer movement in different parts of the season can make morning good as long as entry and exit plans are established.
@jeffreystieve80175 ай бұрын
I've been hunting since 1972. I have hunted spots that were only good for mornings, and others only good for evening hunts. Rarely I found places that were equally good mornings and evenings. I shot a 160 class deer on public property around 2PM; that spot was unique for me because for many years it was a mid-day spot that produced nice bucks. One spot like that. I have no idea why.
