Man, I've had a couple of moments like this and there's nothing more heart pounding then when they get that close. And you wouldn't think it, but those real close shots almost right under the tree stand are among the HARDEST bow shots you can make, because of how severe the down angle is. I've blown more shots at this range than I have at 40 yards. Sounds crazy to people who don't bow hunt but those that do know what it's like.

jeff mattax tell me about it! ...no way in hell would I ever have a day like that on smelly, over hunted, nocturnal PUBLIC LAND. this is what money buys you...but then it's like fishing in a fish tank with the same food on your hook as they get fed everyday...it's no longer fishing...it's just waiting. what kills me is these guys prob don't even use the meat anymore and turn into head hunters that troll raised heards for a "wall hanger" ...sorry but a $12900++++ deer is NOT a wall hanger to me unless the deer was actually hunted and worked for on land that's not managed and doesn't have a "deer for sale" sign on the front of the driveway.
@sage15078 жыл бұрын
man I hunted at Hadley Creek 2 years in a row during the middle of the rut and didnt release an arrow. they never showed me the "raised herd" either. ii must be doing something wrong.

Sage Morris I know you still have to make the shot, etc...I just smirk a tad when I see 'professional' Hunters get invited (I am guessing for exchange for product placement) to the best Out Fitters in the Country, Illinois, Iowa and so on...I would have 20 Pope/Young on my wall (are you listening Bill Jordan) if I had these chances. Not jealous, just fact. I wonder the last time these guys have hunted exclusively on Public Land? Like I said, good for them if they can afford it or arrange it. If someone offered me a brand new 4x4 Chevy, I'm not stupid enough to turn it down.
@jeffmattax8 жыл бұрын
Sage, One more thing. Is their a limit on Inches? 120" or Higher When you hunt Hadley Creek? I would be tickled pink to arrow a 120 Class deer here in Oklahoma...we have plenty of them on public land, but you work your butt off for them. Idiot Green Horns, ATV's, etc..makes me cringe sometimes to find a nice honey hole and someone comes along and POOF it is ruined from their ignorance or laziness. Anyway, good luck in the woods and stay safe..Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Rut!
@sage15078 жыл бұрын
jeff mattax i understand what you mean really. and, to be honest, I've seen first hand guides putting celebs or clients with more money in better spots. Yea its still not guaranteed but they have the higher chance thats for sure! and it is a 140" minimum or 4 1/2 yrs or older rule. $1000 fine for anything under. Just to add, my hunts at hadley were gifted to me so it is hard to turn down.

I love reading the comments on how easy that it is to kill a buck at 3 yards with a bow. They have to be from either people who don't bow hunt, or people who haven't had the opportunity to draw back and kill a buck that close. It's a lot harder than you think. Especially if your form is wrong. You'll go over their back every single time.

@MrBanolicious10 жыл бұрын
i thought the shot was a little far forward, in the slo-mo it looks like it hits above and forward of his front shoulder. poor shot imo nonetheless.
@PrimeTimeHunting10 жыл бұрын
MrBanolicious 100% not too forward, if anything 330 MaNiaC is right about it being a tad back. Tough shot when they quarter to you, but he should have waited for a broadside shot. It may have caught the back of the lungs otherwise it wouldn't have went only 150 yards.
@laplante1499 жыл бұрын
Being shaky and also having seen that the buck spotted him, I am sure that played a role in his shooting. He wanted to get the shot before the buck realized oh crap and took off.

John Jones still doesn't negate the fact you hit the guts from 3 feet ? lol... how can yu pull to the right so much at 3 feet...lol
@johnjones36489 жыл бұрын
+grand dini lol................wasn't 3 feet.............was 3 yards.........................and he shot left, not right...........lol. But my question still stands. Have you ever pulled back on a buck that size before? Ever had the adrenaline rushing so hard you hear your own heartbeat? Ever tried to shoot practically straight down? Didn't think so. Deer ran 150 yards. Pretty good shot if you ask me.
@MrWhiltetail9 жыл бұрын
+John Jones Pretty good shot? Really? Mistakes do happen, but it sounds like you are proud of making a less than perfect shot that caused some intense pain and at least some suffering. I wouldn't be proud of that. Fortunately it wasn't horrible shot, but that doesn't matter to the animal dying. My first P&Y buck was hit through the gut, liver and back of the far lung. Instead being ecstatic I was massively bummed and felt sick because of the suffering I knew that I had caused. I was not happy or proud. He came in so fast that I let it rattle me which is fine, but I should have did the ethical thing by letting down and letting him pass. I regret not doing that. And before you ask, yes, I have drawn back on a buck that big, but that doesn't matter. I have been as excited on a doe as a potential booner, but I have a lot of respect for pain I'm about to inflict on the life I am about to take and I have let down on some really nice bucks (and ate tag soup) because I couldn't stay steady enough from excitement. Maybe I'm being a little hard on you because I have been slowly watching the "industry" erode the value of life over the years just so they can get a big buck on film, but I don't think so. I wouldn't call that a "good" shot. Just not a terrible one. Although I guess compared to what some people in the industry call a good shot it could be called that. I have actually heard some of these idiots call a gut shot a good shot because they won't go far due to the pain and all you have to do is give them plenty of time to die or at least be unable to get away. Again, I'm not saying horrible shot, I just wouldn't be proud of it. Which is how it came across.
@johnjones36489 жыл бұрын
I'm not "proud" of anything related to this shot. Not my place. I just argue that it was not a horrible shot especially since the deer went down within 150 yards. And I've never heard any real hunter say that a gut shot is a good shot. Would love to know who said that if you can tell me.

Here in Michigan where I hunt I'll see 30+ deer every night when I'm hunting not a single mature buck, and we'll have tons of nice bucks on our trail cams anything from big 8's to nice 12 pointers, and tons of them but AS SOON as deer season comes around they all disappear and you wont see them until after season. It sucks they've really smartened up.
@jeffamckee7 жыл бұрын
EnNergy Trix I'm in Michigan too. I used to have the same issue as you. Bucks leave as soon as they start getting pressured. Michigan is a hard state to hunt big bucks. What we did to correct the problem is started hinge cutting the woods. It creates really thick cover for them to feel safe bedding in, and creates up to 10X more food to browse on (over 1/2 of the whitetail diet is woody browse. Not carrots apples or corn). In the last few years, instead of deer moving off of our properties when they get pressured, we started having bucks move into our properties. I hunt 3 months a year. Used to see about 2-4 bucks the whole year (mostly year and a halfs), the past couple of years we see bucks about half the time that we go out, and pass up on most of the bucks that we see. You aught to give hinge cutting a shot. The only hunters that hate it are the ones hunting the properties around yours. It seriously sucks mature bucks off of their properties on to yours. I posted a few pictures on my facebook of what hinge cutting does. Before hinge cutting, on our property you could see 100 yards in any direction. If that is what your property is like in Michigan, you'll need luck to kill nice bucks. What county are you in?

This isn't even hunting guys. This is just shooting. All these people in the South do is just sit down and shoot. To top it all off they have a guide service. I would like to see these guys hunt in southern Arizona with no guide.
