Accurate but here is an addendum to your info, weapon mods were first introduced in fallout 2 hidden behind exploring the new reno arms basement and talking to Algernon. however the 10mm pistol and 10mm smg were not among the ones that could be modified. The weapons that could be modified were the ak112, fn fal, plasma pistol, plasma rifle, laser pistol, laser rifle, hunting rifle, flamer, 44 magnum, desert eagle, cattle prod, power fist, and the flamer fuel itself.

That was a hard basement to find. If I remember correctly, the shop owner sold the upgrades for a lot of caps. So you could get it done that way too.

There is one weapon mod in fallout 1. Smitty could turn the plasma rifle into the mighty turbo plasma rifle. Pretty certain this is what "The Smitty Special" references in fallout nv.

I love how the inspiration is like a vague dream. Like what a kid imagines a cool gun to be.

Literally just started my first fallout 1 playthrough. I've been playing these games for 10 years and I'm finally going back to the classics, truly amazing games

Interesting look back on the history of the gun, but at 2:18 Weapons in the old* Fallout did have a strength requirement but you COULD use them with a lower strength, it just applied a penalty to your to-hit roll. I just booted up the game to check my failing memory and created a character with 1 Strength to check. My memory of names, dates, and other important things might be failing, but not of game rules! *I'd prefer original, classic, or retro, no need to make me feel older than I am!

Just commented the same thing before noticing you already did :x Yeah you get -20% to hit for each STR that the character comes under the requirement. Bad enough that you wouldn't want to use a weapon if you're level -1 under the requirement, and definitely wouldn't touch it at -2 or more.

Appreciate this weapon being the vault dwellers first firearm.

Its honestly really unique that fallout even mentions 10mm, at all. Even now, 10mm is seen as an outsider's choice of cartidge and hasnt featured in any popular media outside of... Miami Vice ?

I've been replaying fallout 3 recently and the silenced pistol as been surprisingly great even with low sneak

You CAN use a weapon in Fallout 1 if you don't meet the minimum STR requirement. But you get a whopping -20% to your chance to hit for each point of STR that you're under the requirement, which is pretty bad.

@@cykeok3525 which. That's pretty forward thinking. A lesser dev would just say: "Nope, you just cant."

While I'm not the biggest fan of the storyline for the Fallout tv series I'd say their set dressing and props department did the best game adaptation I've ever seen. And when I saw their west coast 10mm pistol was a revolver and not an automatic that was the cherry on the top of an amazing cake;). Reference the 10 mm SMG not being an end game weapon in FO 2 I'd say the H&K P90 from that game fills the end game role alongside the Gauss Pistol. Especially if you took the Fast Shot Trait and Bonus Ranged Attacks as, once you had two P90s, you could manage four bursts in a round of VATS. You'd have to reload on the second round in VATS but, after four bursts, there weren't a lot of times when that came up;).

Sounds Like a nice New series. Would Love to See the Plasma and laserrifles. With New Vegas having both Versions of the plasmarifle/caster and one unique for each Version this could be quite interesting
