Hi Bill! I really enjoyed watching you install the seal conversion because I've ground quite a few Jaguar crankshaft seal areas down for the replacement conversion. The most popular conversion is like the one you're showing in this video; 2.632," which is big block Chevy seal area size (396/427/454). I've also done the conversion of grinding the crankshaft down to 2.953," (75MM) which is big block Ford seal area size (460CID). The Chevy seal area is much wider than the Ford, which is very narrow.

Something I learned working on similar split rear seal kits, turn the split seal 30 degrees or so off the flats, don't use sealer or trim the ends of the seal, it needs to be compressed a little to seal correctly. This was from working on a Ford Y block in a 50's Tbird with the Egge seal kit. Being as the machine shop that put the engine together didn't read the instructions i learned this on the redo for them. Have had split seal kits leak before, the offset idea worked on the other engines i did this with later on. Rope seals are a PITA..

I like your idea, all the splits aren’t in the same area. 👍

This offset trick is from a 70s GM service manual on the big block corvette motor. It has spread throughout the car community as a racers trick, and is used in a lot of places on a lot of makes of engines.

What a great conversion. I remember the pain of installing the original rear crank seal on my '69 E-Type, then still having it leak.

Very informative video Terry. Thanks for sharing. I will certainly be watching your Jaguar content with keen interest.

Bill, I called your store and spoke to someone regarding a conversion alternator for my Lucas Generator. He stated that there were never any Lucas Generators with Power Steering pump adapters in Jaguars. No kidding Bill. You need to train this guy. Thanks.

Question: Can the front main seat be changed inframe on the 4.2L six. I'm down to it but can not find any info. Help please.

Interesting....why not a complete one-piece seal with a suitably machined crank to match? I've seen that conversion too...

Look at the diameter and thickness of the flange for the flywheel. It would require some rather extreme modifications to the crank and block to fit a 1 piece rear main seal.

How would you intend on holding the flywheel to the crankshaft if you took off the only thing that holds it ?????
