DATE: February 11, 2024. The fuel tanks are on hold until I receive needed parts to complete that task. In the meantime, I have begun the rear fuselage.
The Sling TSi Kit is the airplane Sling fans have been waiting for. All of the style, economy and practical utility of the Sling 4, but with more SPEED! Harnessing the power of the Rotax 915iS or the all new Rotax 916iS turbo-charged, fuel-injected and FADEC engine, the Sling TSi maintains the quiet, comfortable and smooth ride with an extra dose of horsepower.
The Sling TSi features an all-new high speed wing design: optimized for the power and weight of the aircraft. The leading edge of the wing is flush-riveted for low drag. The forward fuselage and empennage are also flush-riveted. The landing gear is airfoiled, low-drag wheel pants incorporated and there is a new cowling design.
The interior, seating, ventilation and heating are improved for passenger comfort and luxury.
Although the Sling TSi shares a similar appearance and the distinctive “Sling attitude” with the Sling 4, it only shares about 20% parts in common. It is a completely new aircraft, with different design goals than the Sling 4. The main result of these changes is SPEED.

I was wondering how you see the topic corrosion protection. I have see others doing the time consuming and expensive process with alodine fluid. Thank you very much for the time you invest creating this videos! Btw. the hangar is great!

The corrosion prevention question is controversial. I personally do not see the point in priming or alodining 6061 T6 aluminum. If this were a different type of AL, such as 2024, then I would consider corrosion preventative. 6061 T6 is about as non corrosive as it gets. I have spoken to many people including engineers that specialize in metallurgy and they all seem to think it is overkill. As one of them said to me, "it would be like wearing 2 condoms".

Just a little tip with your sealant, as it’s a B 1/2 your going to have half an hour of working time. If you mix up a whole tube at once, most of it will likely harden in the tube before you actually get the parts fitted and riveted. What you can do is get two containers and unscrew the catalyst from the tube. You can then squeeze the catalyst and sealant into the containers to measure their respective weights. From this you can work out the sealant to catalyst ratio. You can then mix them up in smaller quantities so your not throwing half of each tube in the bin 😊

I used these tubes and didn’t have any issues with the working time when assembling the fuel tanks.

I think that the difference between 915 and 916 is that 915 has 1200 hours TBO and 916 has 2000. Which in experimental world is more of a guideline than a rule, but still. The progress you made in 60 days is impressive. Wish you the best!

I thought the 915 was increased to 2000 TBO, but I could be wrong.

@@TheBaldPilot Not yet. There's a possibility it may get increased, but not holding my breath. But, experimental or certified, TBO doesn't matter for part 91 (not for hire) operations. Just inspect it per the maintenance manual, then run on condition. Based on the history of other 9-series Rotax engines, I bet money it'll run fine well beyond 1200 and even beyond 2000 hours.

@@OneAlphaMike Agreed. I tend to follow the beliefs of Mike Busch and condition based theory.

Hey - just a suggestion (because I’m dealing with this right now), put the eyebolts on the bell cranks before closing the wings up. Your hands will thank me later.

That's a good tip. Unfortunately, I have already closed up the wings. Will note for the next TSi I build. (This won't be my last TSi build).

I appreciate the level of detail you have regarding the good and not so good points with the kit. Your setup is epic! Way better than the one car garage! Thanks for putting this out there! I hope to be building a plant here soon! Your channel is really helpful!

I think the sealant you showed is the half hour working time version, I used the B2 which is the two hour version and I still felt rushed. The mixing tool is definitely worth it so you don’t start off with tired forearms.

Enjoying your videos. Nice job. Don't know what your experience is with that fuel tank sealant, but it's "interesting." I chose to go with sealant in cans and mix as I went. The cartridges are nice too. But don't overestimate how much you can get done within the working time. I had a buddy helping me which was huge. Evan's videos do a great job of describing the sequence. Not quite as clear in the manual. Super important to match them to the twist in the wing. For that access panel, I too thought it was missing. But the finishing kit had a stack of covers and all were there. I too have decided to stay with the 915 on mine. It was about $20K difference when I talked to them. Different motor mount, the cowl difference, and still some questions about the prop. The 916 is probably important for the high wing. But well proven for the low wing.
