I've used ATP AT-205 Re-Seal on a couple different cars for rear main, valve cover, and power steering leaks. Has stopped all the leaks, so far. I believe in the product, and will add it again, if the leaks come back.
@WoundedEgo Жыл бұрын
The idea with this product is that the chemical that softens rubber escapes over time and the rubber shrinks and becomes dry and brittle. This chemical re-softens the seal. That's the theory. Obviously if a chunk of the seal is gone, this product won't help. Follow the "dosage" directions carefully.

I used a bottle of this product in my '96 S10 4.3 liter truck. The rear main seal had a small leak when the truck set for several days without being driven. Drove it for two weeks and the oil drip completely cleared up. I've had several oil changes since applying this product to the crankcase and have not had to add anymore. It's the best seal rejuvenator on the market.

It will only work if the seal is not damaged or cracked, Its a polymer that can recondition the seal. It may take 4-5 days to seal up the leak if your lucky. Its worth a try before you pull a transmission to get to the rear main seal ! Its a temp fix once the spring in the seal wears out it will leak again.

This all bull pop , I tried this additive on my 5.3 L Silverado cus had the same leak problems, I kinda trusted this guy, and decided to give it a try, did check about the product and reviews, some positive some negative, bought it anyway on Amazon, once I got it, pour it in the engine right way, give it couple of weeks and for my surprise the leaks didn't stop at all, on the contrary it made it wors, now after several months I have leaks coming from every where, sensors, valve covers,oil pan, oil cooler plug, and mainly from rear main seal. I did some research about adding additives to your car and boy I should of started with that. 90 percent of the people said do not ever add this kind of crap additives to your vehicle's engine, fuel tank etc, etc, they do more harm than remedy. I learned my lesson by going the easy way, now I have to spend hundreds of dollars more due to my personal bad decicion. So you all stay way from this crappy stuff.

after being told by 2-3 shops the steering rack was blown, dealer quoting a $2500 job, driving 11K miles and for the last year just adding 3 oz of STP 'stop leak' steering fluid (high mileage) every 7-10 days whenever steering started whirring (in warmer seasons, winter much less often), i finally googled '06 honda accord poor man's steering rack leak fix' and landed on a guy in a honda forum saying ATP AT-200 did the trick. i did a new search on that, saw 5 youtube mechanics saying same and demonstrating it and was game to try my luck. so, i got a $13 bottle poured 3-4oz of ATP AT-205 and cant recall if i let it sit overnight or drove off for some short nearby driving (my usual), but after 5 days i put fresh cardboard under car to monitor it and the leak slowed-up from 3 drips to 2 and 1 then stopped in 10 days, added another 3-4oz for good measure at first hint of a whir. dont know how long it'll hold, but the dripping stopped. what next? do i now switch back to regular steering fluid? presumably the good grade stuff (not the cheap leak fixer stuff). also, i can see oil buildup has sprayed somehow from the bottom of the SF reservoir onto everything below so now i need to know whether i should get a bottle of degreaser with spray nozzle (safer/gentler on rubber) that i can try to spray what i can reach or ask a shop to do it. i feel like i asked a mechanic once and they said they dont do that. does that sound right?

Automotive tech here, this stuff works by softening the seals so it makes a better seal. It works but the downside is it shortens the life of the seal and the other seals as well. Richard I tried this stuff on my 09 aluminum 5.3 & it didn't fix the problem even after adding another bottle of it after a few hundred miles . It probably works on seals but if it's a aluminum block like mine that these engines were known to have porosity problems in the aluminum casting of these blocks it wont fix that . GM screwed the buyers on these engines & not having the castings that are bad tossed & melted down again to make another block . GM basically figured if they have a comeback while under warranty they would fix it or if you paid extra for a extended warranty they would cover it but many were having issues with these engines as early as 13,000 miles & more leaking oil but once the warranty expired they screwed the customers . I read now that their are 3 class action state law suites against GM because of this very same thing I am talking about . To fix the problem it's a lot of work & costly because GM had a crappy foundry probably in mexico that's not ISO 9002 certified make these junk blocks that should have been tossed to the scrap for remelting . I worked at 4 different aluminum zinc & magnesium foundries years ago before I retired as a master caster & none of these foundries I worked at would allow anything as a casting go out the door that had porosity issues or cold flow sink holes etc & if they did it got tossed & counted as scrap . With ISO 9002 it's about quality on time with no defects & parts that are lot tagged each layer by the caster plus the time date & day of the year for each caster & each shift in the plant that way their is a trace of these parts to anyone who let's a bad casting go through . If they find out it's you that did this you will either get wrote up or fired because if those parts go out to the customer & they find bad parts they can reject the whole lot of them which means the casting company has to pay for them to be sent back & scrapped . If this happens enough times the customer can bail out on the contract with the casting shop which means a loss of money to the casting shop as well as a bad reputation . GM needs to step up their quality control & until they do I won't be buying a truck from them again !

I'm pretty skeptical about leak sealers; they usually only do more damage long term than they fix in the short. I'll be giving this stuff a try, though! I've got an '02 Denali with a quart-a-week slobber. It'll be getting a complete overhaul sometime in the future, but until then, I don't think it could get much worse!

I googled Denali and it came up with the highest mountain peak in North America. Nice thing to own, the leak must be down to global warming. Maybe you should get a Prius

Badgertronix Nothing beats driving around in a mountain and looking down upon the peasants as they're running for cover! The truck has been in the family since the day it was bought. The cost of ownership has been really low throughout its life, and it's still in great condition, so I see no reason to let it go. It often makes fully-loaded journeys from Southern California to Vancouver in Canada and back; something a Prius would struggle to do!
