Great series. If I was the gadgey that's lined up to buy the car I'd be saying paint it and I'll pay the extra!

Those new boot seals that clip onto the inner side of the boot lid are a major pain. After getting my seal on and marvelling at how great it looked , I was dismayed to find I needed Arnold Swartzenneger's help to close the lid. Thought leaving it on for a month without opening the lid would solve the problem. Long story short bought a seal that fit on the body rather than on the boot lid. Thanks to Dave Jaguar's Mini/Jaguar site, I saw him doing the same thing.

Thanks Midge. I might just buy a later type rubber.

Great to see Bruce coming together nicely you’re so right it’s the labour costs that cripple any project you can’t do yourself. You’re making a great job of this and however is getting this car is one lucky subscriber👍👍 Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴

Good idea renewing the subframe Keith, at least you will have peace of mind knowing its going to last

It's good to see which make of parts are used by those in the know. I would not normally know ,so would go by price which isn't the best. I'm looking at different companies thanks to you

That subframe is fine, bit of fibre glass, thick black paint, all sorted 😉

Bruce is coming along nicely. Great to see and hear about the costs thus far and the amount of labour time you’ve dedicated to it. 👍

Parts definitely add up for sure. We have a non genuine subframe for the 89 and it really doesn’t look to bad at all. Look forward to seeing more on the project.

You’re too kind doing all the labour for free and burning through all your gardening leave - don’t burn yourself out. Oooh, went for the one I suggested... I’ve still not fitted mine yet so it’ll be good to see how you do it or if you encounter any problems. FYI the radius are bracket bolts are metric on this (they are on mine anyway) instead of imperial. Might be worth mentioning that you can get 7.5% of Minispares plus others by joining ‘the mini forum’

Mine was missing the bracket for the brake pipe T piece so I had to take off the old subframe and weld on. I also had 1 captive nut that was no good! I think I was just unlucky. Overall I was impressed by the subframe.

So irritating - why can’t thing be done right - a one minute saving for someone costs you 30+

😎👍 Be curious to see how much fiddling the subframe takes to get it sorted. I've found that aftermarket parts can be slightly off. Just enough to need a little rework to get them fitted. I'll be watching.👍 Have a great day from 🇺🇸

Keith, are you fitting new Knuckle joints to the Trumpets? Have you had any problems fitting them if you have?
@classicminiworkshop3 жыл бұрын
I cleaned up the old ones and re-used them. They were in good nick and I know the new ones perish after a couple of years. The rear knuckles had a couple of dimples in them which was there to secure them in the trumpet. I've never noticed that before, I always just assumed they were seized in!
@paulrobinson35283 жыл бұрын
@@classicminiworkshop The knuckles should be a interference fit into the cone. i'm struggling to find a knuckle that is not loose in the cone. Mini Spares are loose. I've ordered various makes and so far the only one's that fit seem to be Stark and SKF. They are listed as been 12.7mm but infact are 12.48mm. I've has to reuse some of the old knuckles with new rubber and cups. I've not noticed any dimples in them, just check my "pile" of knuckles, all smooth.

Damn shame about the subframe as it was original. It still had the 'MOWOG' pressings in it. But yes not savable. RIP. Its always worth shopping around and you did well at Minispares. The only issue with fitting the later boot seal is you are left with a set of holes round the inner bootlid although they do press against the rubber seal. Just make the bottom drain holes bigger!
