This update is great, but, lots of features people have wanted for ages (as well as me) still aren't implemented, such as a CPU load window which shows which devices are using the most CPU, better VST optimization, and support for older VST versions, more supported audio formats to import into projects, more preferences to tweak Reason to the users preference, AND, the ability to scan for new VSTs without having to restart Reason. I pay a monthly for this software and I believe there should be more useful similar to Reaper. I've been using Reason for about a decade now and it has improved a lot, but at a very slow pace.

Customers have been begging for hi-res graphics for nearly a decade. On hi-res monitors, the controls can be difficult to manipulate and the labels impossible to read. As is always the case when Reason gets upgraded, someone slams Props for not catering to them, failing to consider that these changes might be exactly what others have been waiting for.

The fact mimic has mediocre pitch detection is sad to me. Grain. Nxt. N19. Now this. I could see why people want HD graphics but I was excited for a sampler with strong key mapping features and amazing pitch detection. Eventually I will learn Ableton if Reason can't market to people who want reasonable improvements in their products.

as regards your point 1. I switched to bitwig because of "the grid" which is basically a customisable modular environment built in. But yes it is great that reason is getting this kind of thing too. But personally its more likely that the HD resizable GFX will make me return to reason.

I’m begging you guys as someone who’s your favorite ranting and raving about your Reason Compact app you know I recently got an Apple tablet and iPad and I was looking forward to being able to use the app in portrait mode which I was so familiar with by using it on previous iPhones in portrait mode which is in the app only allowed it was portrait mode so I’ve become so accustomed to it and for whatever reason with this tablet it is designed to only be in tablet mode I mean landscape mode which is you know kind of annoys me because I have a customer service is really using it in Portugal you guys can find in your heart to put an update so that I can also use it in portrait mode that would be amazing because I remember everything exactly what is how are designed in portrait mode if not I’ll figure it out and get used to it but you know it’s kind of annoying I’m making mistakes that normally would it make if it was just in portrait mode appreciate it and the Bears will keep support you guys are sure love hopefully you release date hand drum kit for the reason compact

After they focused on the Rack in R12 I would love to see them focus on the DAW now. I think it would benefit almost all users, a better DAW is more attractive to new R+ users, DAW users would really like to see some improvements and it would be better for RE developers too. Yes, there's HUGE opportunities to take a SEQUENCER / ARPEGGIATOR to an entirely new level based on advancements made in tiny bits scattered across many tools out there. We need a SEQUENCER / ARPEGGIATOR that: 1. Allows recording any pattern in directly from MIDI playing into a "history buffer" either in STEP ENTRY, or real time entry, such that you can GRAB ANY RANGE OF NOTES in the history, quantize them if desired, edit them to change timing or pitch, and instantly ASSIGN them to a KEY (e.g. C2) and all KEYS can be customized for their functionality in the Sequencer. The OBVIOUS need to be able to RECORD IN SEQUENCES / ARPS has been touched on by a few tools, but not fully realized for the potential this can provide. 2. Enable the SEPARATION OF timing info from pitch info to use in Sequences/Arps. i.e. any KEY can be assigned to play a PITCH sequence, or be a TIMING sequence that can MODIFY ANY PITCH SEQUENCE, and of course any key can be BOTH a pitch AND timing sequence. But SPLITTING THEM and allowing them to be "played" in ANY COMBINATION multiplies the OPTIONS TO CREATE NEW UNIQUE SEQUENCES. e.g. C2 is assigned a custom sequence of pitches, and C3 is assigned a unique timing of notes: HOLDING THEM BOTH plays the PITCHES with the TIMING APPLIED TO THEM. 3. For TIMING based KEY assignments, these can be applied to any recorded or live played MIDI STREAM. (typical of an ARPEGGIATOR today, however, NEW in that you cannot play in the ARP SEQUENCE IN REAL TIME and EDIT IT IN A HISTORY BUFFER BEFORE ASSIGNING IT to a KEY to affect the MIDI STREAM at will. 4. Make it EXTENSIBLE with a MARKETPLACE where creators can create custom RHYTHMIC and/or PITCH sequences in "packs" that are protected from copy theft. This is where SCALER missed the boat: Artist chord sets could have been a MARKETPLACE to spur HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS on offer. There are MANY more possibilities, and I've actually drafted a functional spec and considered funding a prototype to sponsor a Kickstarter to build the product.

@@raelic3 The sequencer is a little cumbersome to use and could use a lot of keyboard shortcuts. Going into edit lanes works stupid and should all be available from the first layer imo. There is some quirky behaviour with zooming and editing too. It could be much easier to handle. But I agree, it does what it should do. I just like to get some more speed while using it because it's slowing me down.

New combinator is awesome, but Reason 12 is performing horribly on both of my Macs (pretty fast I9 and I7). Still have Reason 11 Suite on both of those machines, and on both Reason 12 is taking up over 400% the CPU as the same file in Reason 11...seriously upsetting. Getting clicks and pops from just a few notes of a single instrument being loaded. It is not a cache issue...I've had the issue for a few days already and it hasn't resolved. Doesn't seem like Reason 12 was quite ready for release. Hopefully an update the fixes these issues is pushed out soon, because at the moment R12 is completely unusable!!!

Could this be some sort of overhead in the graphic dept with Hi Res stuff I haven't seen it up close and personal yet but I am glad I read your comment before i made the same leap // I am happy with 11 Suite it's reliable and rock solid for me and I don't have any clicks hisses or pops issues with it unless I am either running low on disc space and the machine is paging a lot more than it was as the onboard mem has ran out or I am over resourced and end up switching to the onboard analogue audio card. I will make sure that I have a demo first.

Been using it since v 3.5 and the moves they made over the past few years have made me uncomfortable, The Rack still has something unique to offer creative ESPECIALLY from a sound design perspective. @@machoman7655 Seriously.. they need to get the DAW itself working to 2021 standards. I remember what a nightmare it was to use that awful sequencer.. and the way it records audio is so awkward. I got frustrated and just permanently switched to Ableton. Luckily now I can use Reason as a plugin, which has brought me some real joy. Out of curiosity, I tried using Reason 11 as a DAW and it's incredible that the fundamental flow hasn't changed very much. It's still awkward and uncomfortable to use as a DAW. If they don't figure this out, people are just going to use it as a plugin forever. (Maybe that's what they want, who knows?) (I will note though.. Reason, used as a plugin, is one of the most amazing things to happen to music production for me. Having all those years of innovation in a simple VST is awesome)

@AUX ORION You’re absolutely right. They’re at the point either fix it or let this be a VST only. I also have Ableton I use it to record and mix. I use Reason to make beats only. For me I can work quickly and fluently making a beat. I still think it’s the best DAW for creating music only. I wouldn’t dare record or mix in Reason that sequencer is a eye sore I hate it. As great as Ableton is they still haven’t figured out how to make a good piano roll. I figured Reason 12 is going to be the last update for a lot people. I think finally making it HD and adding VST 3 in November will get there last big customer upgrade. If they don’t improve the DAW in version 12 I think it’s really over for them.

New plugin manufacturers can only use VST3 now, so it seems rather odd not to include it - there are at least three plugins I have had to avoid buying over the last year because they are VST3 only and Reason is my sole DAW. At some point in the not too distant future the balance will tip. It reinforces the idea that Reason is now focused on being a plugin itself and not a DAW.

Whatever reason/excuse you may have for not being able to do what you want to do in Reason 12 then it just might be time switch to whatever DAW that may have the features that you feel will compliment, enhance, or completely change your music making experience for the better. I understand there may be frustration if your most wanted feature wasn’t implemented in this update or any other update for that matter, but try something else if this isn’t working for you. That’s one of the cool things about Reason, you can still use it as a plugin in another DAW and see if those features help you achieve what you’ve been aiming towards in your music production journey while still having access to Reason devices.

The updated combinator is nice, but feature-wise overall, this feels more like a minor version increment than a major, such that it would have been more fitting to call it Reason 11.5. I don't know if it's worth the upgrade price from version 11, at least not for me anyway. I might pick it up if it ever goes on sale, depending on the price.

I visibly pogged at the new Combinator customization. That'll be great for not just adding more tweakables when I need them, but also removing them when I don't! A lot of the knobs and buttons on my current combinator patches tend to go unused, so being able to just get rid of them is a blessing.

There are still many bugs here,such as incomplete HD.Why is the icon of Browse and Playbar still blurred in 110%~240% display? Why is HD incomplete like Electric Bass RE? Why is the channel On button of ReGroove Mixer inverted(On is bypass)?Why is Gate LED lamp of the ECF Half Rack always on when its Env.Gate cv input is connected? I hope ReasonStudios can solve this problem, otherwise it’s too annoying.

This is incredible, in a bad way. This must be the least updated DAW every year, ever. A couple of “new” devices and his-res graphics 😐 i was waiting this video would detail all other improvements to workflow, sequencer, backhand features (like vst3 support) but, as i can see in the site, there are none of these. Do you guys have a super small crew or something? This software is completely destroyed by the likes of FL Studio (which you only pay once btw) and Ableton live. Are you guys are moving away from the DAW world and focusing more on sound design and vst sound of things? Step it up!

@@seńor_t007 being able to group tracks into a folder in the sequencer is one example. im not sure if these are considered workflow features but: inverting the polarity of audio clips resample stretch technique with audio clips (basically pitch the sample without stretching) having the option to disable midi notes being played when dragging notes in a "pattern clip". (very annoying when you transpose a whole melody for instance) being able to move scrub through an audio clip

I upgraded from Reason 11 to 12 because: - new combinator that supports vst's in the daw - better graphics and zoom - better browser - the fact that I will receive free maintenance updates I mainly use Reason for creative musical ideas and song structure. It's easy to use the automation for volume balancing, but do other serious mixing in another daw. It's also easy to just send the exported mixer channels to a professional mixing engineer. I believe vst3 will be implemented in Reason 13.

They haven't said it officially, but the writing in on the wall, I'm certain they are (slowly but surely) downgrading the DAW to just a VST. They have Right out stopped development of workflow and compatibility, 3rd party VSTs are still a major problem (there is no VST3 support let alone any real VST support, I have spoken to 3rd party companies of VSTs, and they say Reason Studios is reluctant in looking into implementation of their products, they just not interested) , there's no auto save (option to automatically save the project every 1,5,10 or15 mins) amongst other things. So Reason these days is a no-go (that's coming from a Reason lover from R3 to 10)

Update kong to do what maschine can do with sampling and chopping/live sampling....combine kong and drum sequencer and redrum for one massive ass beast of a drum machine....make new combinator mixer routable to 16 independent channels, deleting the need to use 16 instances of mix channels per kong- we can just route everything in the combinator these things and a few more tweaks and reASON WOULD BE POISED TO DOMINATE THE VST AND DAW MARKET yet they always seem to hold back...

New skins look cool, however, why is it so hard to zoom. It is buried in the menu, make it easier to zoom, I want to zoom in and out instantly. If that can be done with a mousewhell, well, then I don't have one (touchpad). Also I was really hoping to see M1 native version, I guess it is tough to figure it out but this was the main reason for upgrading in the sale for me. I really hope this comes as a minor release. It's a decent update, I wish you threw an extra device or two :-)

Hi res graphics is a little bit niche for folks with a higher res display, but the new combinator and sampler look nice. I was really hoping for a few additional unannounced surprises in old reason fashion that are sometimes thrown in with the release (and not announced until then), but looks like that's it for now. Here's to hoping for a 12.5 update with VST3 support hopefully. As new devs cannot get a license to make VST2s this will really start to eventually limit what we can use in reason if this isn't addressed at some point. MPE or at least polyphonic after touch would be a nice addition as well. Nice looking update though, the sampler really looks like it will be useful. Hoping to import rex files or export rexfiles from it in an update possibly.

Just use the BL filter on your computer--studies show white on black GUI causes more eye strain than black on white. Not a fan of reason at all btw, and I agree it is ridiculous they have no color customization like all other leading DAWs.
