Viega propress is engineered with unpressed detection built in. There is actually a groove behind the seal that gets pressed closed. If it’s not pressed It always shows an unpressed fitting because it won’t hold pressure. Looks like it was a legend brand fitting. Fun fact propress is a brand not a commodity. Kinda like Kleenex and tissues

So you learn that it will leak when you turn the water on and it leaks? Brilliant! The ones I keep hearing about are the ones that start leaking a month or six months or ever a year after assembly. My brother in law has had two major leaks in the house he built and now he is constantly going around listening to the walls to see if he can predict where the disaster will hit next. You want to live like that? Go ahead. My home is soldered copper pipe. Any work I need takes me a couple of minutes longer to do, but at least I can sleep at night.

There was a guy that took the o-rings out too and just used the crimp to hold pressure. Worked till he beat on it with a wrench. So it's a double seal system.

wow very interesting, I would think the crimp doesn't seal at all.

It is a short cut system that may start leaking months after assembly... You want to take that chance just to save a few minutes on one day...be my guest. I like copper pipe connectors that lasts a lifetime. Alloy is your ally towards peace of mind.

@@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore yeah everyone has their go to stuff. Like me personally I don’t trust compression anglestops for shit 😂😂
@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore Жыл бұрын
@PlumbSharp Yea, everyone has there go to materials. So, no compression at all? Only compression I use is for angle stops.

@@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore ill use em if it’s 6pm on a Friday but yeah no I just don’t like them. I’ve had them leak on me and I did everything perfect. I also believe that it’s not serviceable because of deforming the copper. I usuallly solder a male adapter.

If I hired a plumber to make a repair and they bust out the crimper id shut down that job in a heartbeat. Don't use inferior products and techniques on my home just because it's easier and faster for you. I have to live with your fu. Just sweat them right.
@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore Жыл бұрын
Yes sir, I'm with you. I solder everything and don't care what anyone says about propress is faster and easier. Solder for Life FU Pro-press. I'm about to come out with some shirts with that saying.

I built hospitals using propress for the main's. Anything in wall was soldered and I've progressed 3" copper water pipes . Yes propress is faster, however soldering in my opinion has always been more economic, and reliable .
@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore Жыл бұрын
@robertepley4339 I'm with you solder always. In a new hospital, I don't see why to use press. If it's a repair 100% press because that water would never stop dripping. Thanks for watching don't forget to Subscribe.
@robertepley4339 Жыл бұрын
@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore Well, actually, you can make a repair without ever Having to cut the fitting out done it quite a few times you can heat that bidding up and cook the rubber gasket out of there and Sweat it, but that's prior to patients occupying the hospital. That's strictly a quick fix prior to inspection. All the Mead gas, that's silver sodder .
@PrecisionDavePlumbingMore Жыл бұрын
@robertepley4339 Yea I heard of plumbers doing that with press fittings. I would not trust that for more then it takes the inspector to pass.
