So it looks like Zurn is approved for F1960 but their warranty won't cover pipe installed with expansion method. This is from page 31 of the Zurn Residential Plumbing Installation Guide: "Zurn PEX tube can be used with these fittings [F1960] so the standard number is included in the print string on our tube but the system is not covered by the Zurn PEX warranty" I accessed this from Zurn's website July 2023. Seems like a big deal!

I saw the same thing but I think it's excluding installs using rings and fittings from other manufacturers. I accessed Zurn's F1960 Expansion PEX Installation Guide (today in Feb 2024) and the warranty, page 6, makes it clear that Zurn piping, expansion rings and fittings are warranted -- but only when installed by a licensed professional.

@kbwfgg6400 Жыл бұрын
I have watched several your your video's this morning. The take away that I have at this point is that the Zurn is the best option out there but you have to carefully examine each piece for Manufacturing defects. What about any chemical leaching from the plastic? I am building my home this summer. I am on well water - so no problem with the chlorine and ammonia issue. I am going to use a hot water recirculating system - I am really tired of spending half of my life waiting for hot water get to the faucet. I was figuring on using 3/4" copper for the hot water and pex for the cold water lines since there probably won't be a chemical leaching problem with cold water. From what you shared about the copper toxicity now I am not sure. Is the copper toxicity due to the chlorine and ammonia in the city water system? Or will it still be an issue with well water? What is your recommendation on which pipe to use on well water for a recirculating hot water system?
@chrisfoxwell4128 Жыл бұрын
Well water can be acidic which will corrode copper pipes.
@BigBear-- Жыл бұрын
I recommend installing a whole house reverse osmosis filtration system. Along with a good high power booster pump. This will give you extremely clean and pure water without any chemicals that can start to corrode any pipes, fittings, or fixtures. Along with just being a great health benefit for the family of having pure clean water to drink and use (soaps will lather up much better, along with a host of other benefits). The booster pump will increase overall system pressure and output flow, so you will have wonderful pressure in your showers and faucets, along with great flow for your spigots. I recommend at least one outdoor spigot to be on the whole house RO system. For washing anything like cars, windows, your outside walls, etc. You can use your regular well water for things like watering the lawn, but for all other washing needs, stick to the reverse osmosis output water. Make sure that if you install such a system you size it appropriately for your output needs. As well as install a large holding tank, as a buffer for your needs. For instance we have a 350 gallon tank, and our system can create clean water at about 3+ gpm. This way someone can be taking a long shower, while other people use faucets, or someone else is in the second shower, and the system won't completely drain for like 4+ hours at full usage (which will never happen, which is what we wanted). Or we can run our pressure washer at 4 gpm for over 4+ hours nonstop (just holding the trigger down) and the system won't run out during that time (which again, you never use a pressure washer like that anyway, so the system will basically never drain completely). Just make sure your hot water heater is also appropriately sized for your needs (I like to oversize this stuff, to not have to ever worry about water running out, hot or cold). Our house originally came with the RO system, however if I was to install it from scratch I would have used at least a 500 Gallon tank just to be safe (which we might still upgrade to, we'll see).

@MIGHTYX2010 Жыл бұрын
@@abcbandb I used to think this way also and it was explained to me, why do you want to use metal fittings that are so much stronger than your pipe and cost so much more money when the pipe will fail before the metal or plastic fittings do. Right now the plastic fittings are stronger than the pipe so there's pretty much no reason to use a metal fitting. All metals eventually fail with water and the whole reason people are trying to go to plastic is so that water does not corrode plastic, they keep trying to improve the plastic pipe and plastic fittings. I thought about it and decided, yeah, it does seem like the plastic fittings are stronger than the plastic pipe. The plastic pipe would probably fail before the plastic fittings would therefore there's no reason to use metal fittings. IDK just information. 👍
@abcbandb Жыл бұрын
@@MIGHTYX2010 Thanks for your insight. While strength of the piping versus the fittings is "a" consideration, it is not the "only" consideration. In response, for the most part, plastic (regardless of whether pipe or fittings) will be more susceptable to extreme climates/temperatures (including freezing, boiling, melting, etc.), sunlight/uv rays, and/or physical damage/perforation -- when compared to a metal alternative. It bears repeating, that "[I] will use plastic fittings if I have to. . .", but it still seems to me that a reliable metal alternative (like stainless steel) would be best in a number of circumstances. Keeping in mind that the fittings/connections are the most critical junction points, I would be willing to pay a bit more for those parts if they were available in a safe truely corrosion-proof long-lasting impervious metal option.

Hi Joe Just love the way you present your information. Can't get enough. I am currently having an extension built on my home and have chosen to have a radiant system installed, in concrete with tile. I have discussed this with the plumber and he was planning on using pex A because he said he can get tighter bends. Can you enlighten me to what you would use in your home? Many thanks from Long Island

Expansion doesn't mean pex a?

This is PEX A that conforms to the ASTM F1960 standard. Their PEX B is a whole different line of products that conforms to ASTM F1807.

I’m not aware of any pex that uses expansion fittings other than pex a

@@IntegrityRepipeInc Zurn doesn't specifically call their PEX tubings A or B. If the tubing conforms to the PEX A standard but not the PEX B standard, what do you call it? You don't call it PEX B that works like PEX A. It's just PEX A.
@IntegrityRepipeInc Жыл бұрын
@@quadroeffects9316 Never true. The Extrusion method for Zurn is B. The Extrusion method Uponor is A. EXTRUSION METHOD.

@@wallacegrommet9343 You just watched a video of a PEX B pipe that _can_ be connected with cold expansion. Not all PEX B pipe can do this.

So unless you’re doing a full refit, you’re suggesting not to go Uponar to Zurn for a repair and share a fitting. Would be nice if Zurn had a Uponar to Zurn fitting, like there is for copper to PEX.
@IntegrityRepipeInc2 жыл бұрын
They Do. Uponor is F1960. Zurn is F1960. they use the same F1960 fittings. Zurn makes F1960. Uponor makes F1960.

Hello, have couple question to this product: 1. how long no leak warranty for this joint? 2. If compare with copper fittings, which is more expensive? Thanks.
@IntegrityRepipeInc2 жыл бұрын
Pex systems Uponor or Zurn both have a 25 year warranty. The Zurn system personal property warranty is 25 years. the Uponor system personal property warranty is 10 years. Copper systems cost the most.

Copper crimp is 1,000 easier to work with and repair than cold expansion. Never use cold expansion. Crimp with copper crimp rings

Pex A is expansion pipe. Pex b is crimp only.

But why use zurn over uponor. Just saying you recommend it isn't quite enough. You could be sponsored by zurn to say that, we don't know.

You seem to be a paid spokesman for Zurn. I don't understand how you can post a video like this and in another point out multiple manufacturing defects in Zurn pipe with the recommendation that you inspect the roll before installing it. Really? I'm suppose to uncoil it to inspect it before installation? Oh wait, I need to heat it first because its cold outside. Furthermore, the class action suit against Uponer had nothing to do with the extrusion process. It is limited to the red and blue pipe because of the way the dye is applied to the pipe after it is extruded. Their patented process heats clear pipe so the dye will stick and in the process degrades the pipe making it more prone to develop cracks from water treatment chemicals. This is why Uponer no longer makes it. The Uponer clear pipe doesn't have this issue and has the same class 5 rating for resistance to chemicals as Zurn.
