Thank you for this excellent overview of some of the changes taking place. American Anglican here and in a growing parish in the Northwest. People coming to our parish are longing for a faith that is older than they, a faith tradition that is outside cultural vagaries, one given to prayer and holiness. Praying that all of the Church will renew their commitment to Christ and his Church.

My long time friend can't accept that he was born with original sin just because his Dad tells him so. Orthodox Ukrainian. He doesn't buy it logically and asks for someone to logically explain that to him. Im in an apologetic course with Biola ( certificate) but Masters after ( finance) and I am at logger heads with one of my oldest pals on this point. I'm 57 Gonzaga Masters degree and an educator 30 years retired. Anyone help me on this? We Augustined and Kalam I just need some guidance. Kindly revert Dr.Craig and thank you!

Have you ever read “The problem of pain” from C. S. Lewis? There is a chapter there where he tries to explain we are sinners by nature.
@ji8044Ай бұрын
Your friend is correct. Jesus never mentioned original sin and as a Jew would not have believed in it. In Judaism, the sin of Adam is not visited upon each new generation. That's why the baptism of John was different from the baptism of Christianity today
@davidjanbaz7728Ай бұрын
@ji8044 As a Baptist growing up with a Presbyterian Uncle Pastor : i had two baptisms one at 1.5 years old by my Uncle and one at 14 to join the Baptist church. Not all Christians view baptism as a regeneration act but in obedience after a true repentance. I agree John's baptism is a Jewish Mickvah and NOT a Christian baptism. We are NOT condemned by Adam's particular sin but out nature is fallen and we commit our own sins that Need a Savior for. Sin entered the world by one man Adam ( he chose to sin ) and one man( Jesus)made it possible to get totally clean from this sinful nature in the kingdom of God.

@@davidjanbaz7728 Pretty good reply thank you. Jesus was not a savior though. He never stated he was dying to take away original sin.

At the same time many people in my environment are leaving the faith... I guess it's always a matter of perception.

Dr. Craig did you become a Christian when it was cool. No, friends, I was a Christian before the trend. I love him so much.❤

Give him time. Analytical people need a long time to reach a faith based conclusion.

In my experience, the people that are converting to Christianity are doing so for terrible reasons. Instead of converting for intellectual reasons, they seem to be converting for more emotional reasons. To be fair though, I think that's the real reason why people believe in God. They might put a sort of "intellectual veneer" for why they believe, but if you get to the foundation for why they actually believe, I think it's normally entire emotional reasons (fear of hell, fear of death, life being supposedly meaningless, no sense of "ultimate justice").
@mbb--Ай бұрын
Emotions are not the reason I believe in God. I believe for philosophical reasons. If I allowed my emotions alone to decide this issue, perhaps I would lose my faith. The level of suffering I have in my life produces doubts about God's goodness. However, a naturalistic worldview is not plausible to me as an explanation of reality, so I retain my belief in the existence of God as I work through my doubts about who He is as a Person.

@markfull... So right. Growing up in the Roman Catholic Church system, none of the family had a relationship with Jesus Christ, but rather with the ornate cathedral-like buildings, filled with stained glass, angelic statuary and paintings, fine woods, marble and gold, designed to evoke a feeling of awe, of getting closer to God from one's day-to-day life. You can participate in holy sacraments, bowing, hand gestures, candle lighting, etc, that make one feel as if you're doing service to God, and in return you hope to be acceptable to Him. All is devoid of Scripture, and the knowledge of Jesus Christ, who is the only way, the truth and eternal life. Thank you Jesus for sparing me with your Word!

I think that's a very dismissive way of characterizing what's actually happening. A rather convenient way for a non-believer to justify digging their heels in.

Sometimes, like actor/comedian Russell Brand, they are converting for indictment reasons.
