In my opinion, the main real reason is elderly Americans have no one to take care of them when they eventually need assistance. It's unaffordable to hire someone for in-home caregiving and assisted living or nursing home in the US. The implied agreement is his Filipina spouse and her family can keep what remains after the foreigner passes away.

I saw the video that you spoke of with the man who came to the Philippines and returned to Thailand. I think that you are exactly right about the need for companionship as the primary need that retired expats are trying to satisfy. I will share a little of my story. I was a workaholic for 35 years in nursing. While I started out shy, I eventually turned into a people person. Eventually, I separated from my wife. I moved in with my elderly mother who needed help with things. When the vaccine mandates began, I quit my job and retired early rather than endure forced vaccination. So I went from working a lot to nothing to do and not a lot of money to spend while I was waiting for my pension to kick in. Several months later my mom passed away and I found myself utterly alone in my dead mom's house with only one real friend. I watched endless hours of youtube studying the Philippines and other retirement destinations, and waiting for the Philippines to open up to tourism for the unvaccinated. That was the darkest, most depressing couple of years in my entire life. It isn't easy to just make new friends when you are 56 and you lose a lot of mutual friends when you get divorced. Finally, Mom's estate was sold and I eventually made my way to Cebu. I have to say that I have found all the Filipinos that I have met to be extremely friendly and welcoming. I eventually found a great little apartment in a complex with some really great neighbors, and I found a great girl who is very much younger than me online. I am planning to marry her but I have not asked her yet. It was lonely here at first, but it takes time to settle in and form new relationships with others. In America older people are usually ignored and not shown the respect that I have found here. Anyway, any guy wants sex, of course, but companionship is so very important. When I was married, my wife and I worked together and we were rarely apart ever. Once I was separated and then divorced, I realized how much I missed the companionship. I wouldn't call it social anxiety exactly, but it just doesn't appeal to me as much to go out and do things alone with no one to share the experience. I rarely go to a restaurant to dine alone, I would just as soon order grab at home. I don't usually go to the beach or a movie without someone. I just never really understood this about myself until I was separated and divorced. I think you are exactly right about the need for companionship as you get older. Thanks for taking the effort to make this video, it was a great subject.

👍😎🇵🇭! Well I have to say I have been very happy married to my Filipino wife for 29 years! Although I work out of town for over half the year in a very remote area away from my wife it’s hard on me. My wife understands what I must do to provide a good life and I make a lot of money. We often return to the Philippines where her family is as much mine! I have to say I love the Philippine culture and am very familiar with it as if I was raised here and I have been learning well a lot of practicing Bisaya language. My wife’s family have said it is getting time stop English NOW BIBAYA! Yes I am ready for the challenge because we had a home built there and with my family gone hers is now mine. I am not old bye far but ready to settle in the Philippines as my home and yes I know all about how slow things move and the loss of power and differences in shopping! I think this is what I need! Just for the simple fact and I don’t know why when I am in the Philippines I don’t need any blood pressure medicine and check it often maybe I am relaxed and calmer but always happy! I can definitely say it’s bye far not for everyone even if they think so because it takes years of travel to the country to understand and accept! It doesn’t hurt to say one of my favorite things is Scuba Diving! And I can’t think of a better place 😁🤿!

My situation: Two of my late Dad's cousins retired to the Philippines & married Filipinas. Plus: Two of my 1st wife's brothers are married to women from the Philippines that retired in the US. And: Most of the women in my family were Nurses and worked with OFWs in the US Medical Field. Further, I'm not staying in California after retirement. I don't enjoy cold weather anymore, I'm somewhat familiar with Filipinos & the Philippines are English speaking as well as having a low cost of living. If I can't acclimate to the Philippines, there are MANY places in the US I could relocate to. If some Filipina expresses an interest in me after I relocate, I won't object.

Sir, you hit the nail squarely on its head! In my own case, there are very many locations to which I could retire that are at least as affordable as the Philippines. Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Panama, Mexico, Costa Rica, and on and on. I choose the Philippines because I’ve been visiting for many years and have developed a circle of good friends here. The thought of being alone in those other countries and away from my circle of friends keeps me from considering extended stays anywhere else. Thank you for your excellent and very thoughtful commentary!

I'll be retiring in the Philippines soon. I'm already basically a loner so "social anxiety" isn't the issue for me. I plan to get MY ACT together for a year before even considering a Filipina. I'm moving there purely for the lower cost of living (as you mentioned). No way to retire comfortably in the US.

The reason Grandpa why foreigner marry Filipina, is because foreigner saw the good quality in them. They are for the most a caring wife and take care of their husband which is so hard to find in a western woman. However, those who are in search of such quality need not look on the internet, there are organized and individual scammers preying on those foreigner with good heart. Be aware of that.

Why expats retire and marry Filipinas? Because they can get the young ones, and as long as he is providing for her family ( mostly single mother) and her extended families (cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, and the whole barangay 😂) he will be treated right. Once the flow of dollars is gone, it’s goodbye Joe!

I'm not sure if I have social anxiety but I prefer to be alone or with my wife. I don't like parties just because there are many fake people. Now, Foreigners go to the Philippines to seek younger Filipina. Also, they want a Filipina to take care of their everyday needs. They feel superior since the exchange is 50 to 1 and can live a comfortable life with their ss check. And of course, Filipinos look up to them not only for the money but foreigners mostly are kind hearted and generous. Lastly, as you mentioned. They want a mestiza baby.

The title of the video is why do retirees go to the Philippines and get married. Is that actually a big percentage of what retirees do? There are reasons why retirees go to the Philippines which would be different from the reasons why young single guys go to the Philippines. The younger single guy who goes to the Philippines and hangs out in Angeles City, olongapo or EDSA complex in manila are doing so for a specific reason. If you have ever been to an American bar and tried to pick up a casual partner you will see why the Philippine bar scene is preferable. Add to that the concept of “the girlfriend experience” which occurs in Philippines and it quickly becomes apparent why American men prefer to travel.

In one of the comments below, the person wrote..." They want a mestiza baby". Well of course, and who can blame them? The last two Filipinas who won the Miss Universe title are mestizas. Pia Wurtzbach is half filipina - half german (white Dad) while Catriona Gray is half Australian (white Dad). Another advantage is that one can save money by not having plastic surgery on their noses. I am quite sad to see that a lot of filipinos from the younger generation today are undergoing nose jobs. I must admit that my American husband loves my Pilipino nose while he hates and makes fun of his nose. Isn't that ironic? Cheers!

>7,000 islands, and.beaches in every color of the rainbow, with women of every color too. Have you seen PH-Pea's Asian/Polynesian video about PH sexuality? Not too intellectual, but a very common-sense discussion of cultural differences. That Thai/PH expat was right about marrying a Filipina and taking her to Thailand. Yes, I love PH for cost-of-living, cultural identity, English, beaches, and 'genuine' hospitality, but I will be staying in Thailand, and visiting PH whenever I need that adventure. Wouldn't be caught dead in some Thai provinces, even with a Thai wife. The only thing I dislike about PH is the gossip[...chismas?] that is everywhere in the world, but is also a cultural pastime/sport/competition in the PH. I can deal with "PH Time" waiting for anyone/anything, but that really makes PH a less desirable destination for many expats. Once PH is on the same "time-is-money' paradigm the attraction will grow, but I'm retired, so I don't wear a watch anymore.😄 Keep on vlogging Grandpa, and I'll keep watching👍👏

Many Filipina women, especially the younger ones are willing to marry a foreigner to escape poverty in the Philippines. Once they get their Green Card, they go their ways and find a more moneyed guy, flirt with them, and leave the the guy who brought her to US or a foreign country. Careful guys with these Filipino women/girls who are easy to get, just to avoid the difficult life in the PH.
