Occasionally I add a bit of weak epsom salt solution to my thanksgiving cactus for extra magnesium. Would that affect the meter reading if only used a couple times a year? Thanks for your help.

Tee, great question. Adding Epsom salt shouldn't affect your reading. Epsom salt is actually magnesium sulfate, as you know, so not technically a salt and provides magnesium and sulfur to your plants. I did a video on how good Epsom salt is for your houseplants, if you haven't already seen it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4vXl3qXmd-Caas

@@HealthyHouseplants Magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) is a strong electrolyte and is a salt. It will affect the conductivity sensor measurement. This meters don't measure moist, they measure conductivity, which varias by soil, water, salt, fertilizer and other factors. This meters are not recommended in any way. The industry is using tensiometers for quite good results. I recommend to weight the pot or a tensiometer, they are affordable.
