I applied this semesters. Fingers crossed But I want to become one because people don’t keep up with oral health and don’t realize what damage it could do till it too late. Yes we have efda and dentist. Why wouldn’t we want to prevent them actually needing those services. Also. Smiles effect a lot! I hope I can work with kids, start making it fun and for them to care more.

Do you think this career is good for someone who has anxiety? I'm not an introverted person, but I do have really bad anxiety at times. I find comfort in repetition and I hate being in situations where I don't know how to handle the issue or problem. I also hate super fast paced environments where a lot of people are involved. Do you think this could be a career for me to consider?
@RachelGreene5 жыл бұрын
Girl. Anxiety is my middle name haha! I’ve always been a very anxious person in general, luckily it’s much better now but still. I am a huge introvert, I was extremely shy growing up and I would rather eat my shoe off my foot than give a speech 🙈 Honestly this job has helped me a lot because my personality was like that. It forces you to come out of your shell but remember, people are likely way more scared/nervous to come see you than you are of them. You wear a mask, you are in control of the appointments, you have a very regular routine you follow and generally you only have to entertain one person at a time. This is a very faced paced career, unless you work in a smaller office. Again, you’re alone a lot though so if when other people are around you’re really only focused on one at a time.

I imagine that this job can be kinda relaxing sometimes. You’re focusing on one thing, seeing your work & then you get to see your patients nice clean smile at the end of it. I also have anxiety & I have alot of faith that this is one career path that I’ll be successful at without feeling too overwhelmed

Hi, I’m interested in becoming an RDH I’m barely about to start college. How long is it including getting the required prerequisites? , can I get them done at a university near my home and then transfer them to a community college that has the dental hygiene program or should I/ have to get it all done at the same community college?(:
@RachelGreene4 жыл бұрын
For me it was 19 months but for most it’s longer, 2-4 years. You would just have to check and see about that!
@madelynrost2164 жыл бұрын
i’m currently doing my prerequisites! i’m doing half of them online(the math ones) and science ones in person. it will take me a total of 2 semesters to get them all done! i’m not doing them at the same schools but as long as they’re accredited schools you should be fine and your credits should transfer. I just graduated high school a couple weeks ago but never did my advanced math and sciences. i live in Quebec though so it may vary from place to place since i’m getting prerequisites for cegep not college or uni. you can always email your local colleges admissions office if you aren’t sure!

Before anything just wanted to say your videos are amazing! Also, I’m interested in RDH but theirs a problem I wanted to ask you about. I was looking at videos with close ups of teeth cleaning and I find it extremely disgusting. Will I be able to over come this, will I be able to become an RDH with this problem. I always thought to my self when watching those videos “ew I can never do this, I might as well throw up”! Did you ever feel the same way and is it different in person.

You have no idea how much comments like this mean to me, thank you so much! Before I started doing it it kind of grossed me out too but you're never actually going to be touching anything so I don't mind it. You always have gloves on and honestly now I find it so satisfying haha! There has definitely been mouths that I have come across that gross me out but with patient education and lots of consistency, it's so rewarding to see how far they come!

👋 hi there ! Was just wondering did you go to a community College or a trade school im in California and the trade schools are all pretty pricey and the community colleges are kind of far from me and harder to get into jerk curious what route you chose
@RachelGreene4 жыл бұрын
I chose a trade school and I don't regret it, if I had to do it again I would definitely choose it over a community college or university. Even though it ended up being more expensive, I liked getting done faster and I liked not having general education course that had nothing to do with my career!

Hello, I have a few questions since I’m somewhat considering being a dental hygienist. Do I need to have a good reason to make my schedule flexible? Also, are female hygienist forced to wear make up? Do part-time hygienist get paid less than a full time dental hygienist? Other than that, thank you for informative video. ((((:
@RachelGreene5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Just find an office with hours that fit into your ideal schedule, whether it be full time or part time. We’re not forced to wear make up no, I don’t even own anything other than eyeliner and mascara lol. No, in my experience the pay is the same, the only thing that may differentiate is getting benefits. You’re welcome, thank you so much for watching! :)
@anagomez71153 жыл бұрын
Did you do any shadowing hours before becoming the hygienist?
@RachelGreene3 жыл бұрын
I did as part of my senior project but I also worked at a dental office my whole senior year of high school. They trained me on the job to be a dental assistant so that I could have first hand experience of seeing what hygienists do every day and see what its like working in a dental office so that I would really feel confident that going to dental hygiene school was really what I wanted to do! I was so thankful for that opportunity!
