Reb beach playing black magic and giving some info about his Ibanez Signature Guitar . ( slightly longer video then the one that's already on youtube , the video quality should be better too)

I think he did an interview for Guitar Player in 87 - 88 that was the last interview I read about him. Very unassuming yet gifted player. Comparison? his style is not as bluesy as Slash. Slash is way accurate but Reb has speed and his grooves are right well bluesy too but he transitions into the hammer-ons like a Patrone' margarita, double margarita. Winger was lucky to have him.
@leometal123 Жыл бұрын
people usually focus on people like Malmsteen (which is also a very good guitarrist but less accurate shredding)

In retrospect, this guy had a super unique sound, and after all these years, will now stand out from the crowd.

Definitely unique. I think in a weird way it feels a lot more contemporary (whatever that means) compared to a lot of the shred-lords of the 80s.

I started to play guitar right after i seen this video, three years ago. I still love Reb Beach playing, he's my inspiration, he makes me feel real desire for playing guitar. Thank you Reb! You Rock!!
@ckimsey773 жыл бұрын
Agree on inspiration...but id been playing 4 years, just starting to get pretty good, learned some harder songs/solos, learning to improvise lead that finally didnt sound like just playing scales, could even throw in a bit of tapping...held up with most with exception of really fast stuff (which is what i wanted; 80s shread). Then i saw this...amazed yes, but also disgusted how epic and technical this was compared to me. Definition of "80s sound", and so good i knew id never reach this so i quit playing guitar for a long time lol. Surely someone that plays has had this happen once in their journey?

I never realized that there was a debate on whether Kirk Hammett or Reb Beach was better. But really is there any comparison? Reb is infinitely better.
@kcb53363 жыл бұрын
Well...it was winger that first made the comparison. It seemed much more a jealousy of Metallica’s success than about anything else. Reb is phenomenal. But Kirk certainly is good too. Kirk will certainly go down as more of an inspirational/ influential player than Reb, and rightfully so. Kirk has probably inspired more kids to pick up a guitar. And Reb has probably intimidated several to put it away.
@guitarguru.35723 жыл бұрын
@@kcb5336 I agree. Kirk is much more of a household name than Reb. Reb is just far more technically skilled. That style caters to more of a niche audience, though.

@@guitarguru.3572 True, it’s like comparing Eddie Van Halen to Jason Becker or Yngwie. When it comes to musicality and virtuosity, the latter two take the cake, but in terms of influential or popular, Van Halen takes the cake.

I can't believe that people still mention this "RB trashing on KH" thing on most of Reb's videos. it happened like a trillian years ago ... personally I like both. but if I had to pick one as my guitar hero, it definitely would be Reb Beach. I grew up listening to great guitarists and all genres. Regarding the Beach and Hammett debate I share this. Two different styles based on their band. Kirk is a position player and restrained in his early days to fit the Metallica mold, but listen to solos from "One" and "Unforgiven" when he was allowed some freedom and it still gives me chills. A great player! As for Reb Beach, he is tasty in his playing and had a lot of creative freedom early in his playing, but his soloing was not as remember able as Kirks. I found that since Reb wrote both rhythm and lead that his rhythm playing was catchy and way better than his soloing IMHO. Again, an all around great player as well. Kirk has been boxed in, but he could shred back in the day. Keep in mind that EVH was not an instrumental soloist like Satch, Vai or Yngwie but he is Mr. Riff Extraordinare. Great players, all different styles and band concepts. Rock on!
@ronrocker71314 жыл бұрын
@Crimson Idol I think Kirk, just like Lars, got complacent with his level of playing, and lost his conviction to evolve further technically. It's not surprising, given the success they achieved by the early 90's. To be fair to Kirk, he actually had pretty decent chops(except for vibrato) and some pretty solos up until The Black Album. He just... kinda lost it all. Same, as Lars.
@travisisaacs19364 жыл бұрын
Anyone that thinks Kirk is a better soloist than Reb has lost their mind.
@whip6894 жыл бұрын
Name a Reb Beach Solo better than anything Kirk did on the Black album back to his days with Exodus? I'll wait.... I love Reb, but he's never had a solo better than "One" or as well known. He's always been a back up guitarist for the most part and he even admits it in interviews. Still a very good guitarist with different tone and control, but he's a better rhythm player with catchy hooks than a soloist or pure lead guitarist.
