You can picture the singer and her partner having this conversation, and feel all the emotion - the sadness, the disappointment, the deserate determination - that underlies this situation. Is your song wanting to be faster with a less melancholic tempo? Would be more bittersweet that way. Bitter lyrics and message, to an upbeat/sweet tempo.
