There is a behind the scenes making of her recording this song on her channel. She actually recorded this final version of the song two days after they filmed the MV and she was sick @_@.

Yes, #IU's lyrics are the key. Her melody and phrasing are always designed to support the meaning of her lyrics. You stopped at that lovely bend at 1:57 - that bend is the "will you" part of "take me with, will you" (don't believe the subtitles) - doesn't it sound like gentle pleading? And two lines later "please, go with me, will you" that sound is slightly, very deliberately, different. If you like subtlety, you'll like #IU.

For context, IU is one of the biggest artists in Korea. Sold out stadiums for multiple days, won acting awards and overall superstar. she had terrible cold the day she recorded this BTW. I encourage you to check her out again. Side note, that's BTS member V as the male in the video. They're good friends.

IU will be on tour, her first world tour this year. I used to be a soprano; I didn't know a soprano could do so many things. Thanks for the vocal commentary; it helped me. She's been performing for 16 years, so I don't get envious, I just know she started with great talent very young.

I love your term "Vocal poetry". Absolutely spot on for IU! Since you are a fan of IU now (hopefully), I would urge you to listen to her other songs which are high on vocal aesthetics; some examples might be "Bad Day", "Friday", "Everybody has secrets". Just for her amazing vocal range, you can listen to "Good day", especially the last part where she spans several semi-notes one after the other. For a new sound with esoteric chord and mode progression, listen to "Lilac". If you want to dwell on her amazing quality to simply emote through notes, listen to "Love Poem". To listen to her energy, listen to a live version of her self-composed song "Hold my hand". And of course, her ballad "My Sea" is another very powerful song. If I were to put IU's vocal capabilities in colors, she is a rainbow.
