I love this performance, and what blows me away is that he was 43 years old when he did this show. If you look REAL close, you can spot Macaulay Culkin (Kevin from Home Alone), Elizabeth Taylor (best known for playing Cleopatra) and Liza Minelli (daughter of the iconic Judy Garland). MJ was a phenomenal singer and dancer. He was also terribly exploited by the music industry, as many of our cherished celebs have been or still are. It's tragic what happened to him. So much talent....too little time with us.🖤💔

Absolutely this. You can see how poorly everything is fitting him, and (as much as I loved him) he is very clearly lip synching this and trying to hide it because he is embarrassed. It's sad. Unfortunately, this was his life from a very early age.

Excellent Reaction. I can remember the first time he did the Moonwalk on Mowtown's 25th Anniversary show. People went NUTS. The next day all the kids in school were trying to Moonwalk. The only vocals he wasn't singing, and I wouldn't call it lip-synching because he wasn't even pretending to sing them, were his own harmonies he created in the studio. Of course it would be impossible for him to recreate that same sound in its entirety live, him or any other signer who records their own backup vocals in the studio. You can duplicate that live. It's IMPOSSIBLE to sing lead and backup at the same time. So what MJ and other solo artists from that era would do is sing their lead vocals LIVE and have their back-up vocals pre-recorded (Clicks) so you get the entire studio sound at a live show.

I think in order to make some of it work,he had to use backing track with the vocals probably. But some of it you could hear its not lipsyncd , ... Theres vid on here of him on a lift 30 feet above the audience, & the lift gaveway & you hear it hit the ground, he injured his back, but finished the song & went to the hospititol after the show.
