Spoiler and Spoiler are my favorite 2 people
@mascot4950Ай бұрын
I recently clicked on a Sanderson video. I either missed it or there were no spoiler warnings, and I didn't really know what it was about. Out of nowhere, from my perspective, he drops "and you get to attend the wedding of x and y". My brain goes "wait... are those the names of two characters both mentioned in the first dozen pages or so of this huge series I just started reading? Oh well, I guess those two are meeting at some point, then."
@nadie9058Ай бұрын
@@mascot4950 On the bright side, it's pretty obvious from the beginning of the second book, so this spoiler only affected the first. And it's very minor, nothing about their relationship is really ruined. That being said, it's a learning moment for you to have care when consuming content of the authors of the books you are currently reading, especially if it's meant for fans.

@mascot4950Ай бұрын
@@nadie9058 I do, Sanderson is normally really good about flagging spoilers to the point of not even revealing book titles without warnings. I'm not in the fandom so "announcing " doesn't mean anything to me without watching it. I might have missed it, but there was no obvious signal that I had reason to worry about spoilers in this particular case. I should perhaps have added that the spoiler wasn't a big deal for me, I'm typically entirely disinterested in romance/marriage in a book. Worst case it might diffuse some tension at some point between where I am now and the wedding, because I know they'll both evidently survive until the wedding. On the other hand, I've already forgotten to the point that I'm not sure I'm remembering the right people anymore, although out of all the characters I know of so far, it seems somewhat obvious.

'He has the artistic vision of a 16 year old who huffs glue' - Is anyone whos seen Sucker Punch particularly surprised by this? I mean, its a bit of a guilty pleasure is Sucker Punch, but it is absolutely the kind of film a 16 year old glue huffer would make; A basic summation of almost all of Snyders films to date: The vaguest attempt of a nod to profundity, buried under a lot of attractive people in awesome CG fight set pieces, usually involving an excessive amount of ramped slow motion.

@snorpenbass4196Ай бұрын
The Red Sonja thing is... tricky. The original character was named Red Sonya - with a 'y' - and wasn't in the world of Conan. Instead she was a mercenary in late medieval Europe. Created by RE Howard, she was one of his few female main characters. However, the Red Sonja character was based on L Sprague de Camp's rewrite of the character to fit a Conan story, and as such is kind of sort of not created by Marvel - but also definitely is. Like I said, it's... tricky.

I love that the Red Sonja movie is based on a Marvel character, created for the Conan comics, co-stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as "not Conan." For those interested, Gail Simone has largely written Batman spin-off comics, Deadpool, and Marvel's Domino. She will also be the first woman to write Uncanny X-Men solo*, beginning in August. (*Kelly Thompson was the first as co-writer on the Uncanny X-Men 2018 series). People online have been joking about movies having "walled off" DLC for years. Zack Snyder apparently didn't get that it was a joke. I'm surprised Netflix didn't charge $9.99 for the additional content. I personally feel Snyder is an amazing visualist. He's crap at character direction or coherent story, however.

Red Sonjia was fleshed out as we know her in that Marvel comic, but she did in fact originate in a Robert E. Howard story. However, it was not a Conan story, nor was it even fantasy. It was a historical fiction story published in the 1930's and set in the Ottoman empire. As for that film, people often assume Arnold is playing Conan, and that you're looking at Red Sonja and Conan on the cover, but he's actually just playing... **checks notes** ... some dude. Sandahl Bergman is in it too, but she also has a new role as some queen character. It was Marvel who really saw Sonja as a character to depict as a barbarian and started lumping her in with Conan, and I think the movie tried to do the same thing without licensing Conan himself. Hers is a strange and confusing history. You should google the posters Robert Rodriguez had made for his shelved Red Sonjia flick featuring a certain Rose McGowan completely devoid of muscles, resting atop a hill of skulls and licking a sword absolutely **drenched** with blood lol.
