It's not exactly kicking over others' sandcastles (Maggie's worst fear) but it's close as you snap up precious castle space when your opponent isn't paying attention :) Luckily, there's not too long to brood in this quick paced tile layer from none other than Reiner Knizia! Turns are swift and there's always something to get done - build a long chain of energy or food farms for points, pick up more objective cards, vie for majorities in settlements or simply guard your castles while you can.
Note: Prototype game featured, art, components & rules subject to change. This is an unpaid preview and as with all of our content, consists of our honest thoughts and opinions.

Thanks for stopping by! We're Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

Oh that sounds like a perfect game for us: not many rules, easy setup, not too confrontational - I think we ´re in! Perfect for people who like light-weighed games (like us) 🎉Thank you for showing it. By the way, it is interesting: Dr. Reiner Knizia is german (me too), but you hardly hear a thing about his games on most of the german you tube channels. Have a nice time🎉

I really enjoy your reviews. They are informative and getting two perspectives helps quite a bit. I have made several buying decisions based on your recommendations and have never regretted a single one.

This looks super simple to get to the table and fun! I love their use of recyclable materials too. 😊 Maggie, I’ve been wanting to ask, WHERE do you buy your shirts? You always have the best patterns. Hope y’all have a wonderful week!

Maggie is often wearing an Australian brand called Gorman. Sometimes she is dressed head to toe in their colourful patterns 😁 Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the preview! This reminds me of Carcassonne, which was one of my favorite "beginner board game days" game about 20 years ago.

It reminded us of that too! Different objectives but having a single tile to play made it feel similar! 💜 it's nice to think this might be a gateway for someone new now ☺️

A good game, you like it, but do you predict it will land in your top 10 at the end of the year? I suspect its lightness will probably prevent that from happening for most people's top 10 lists.

Sooooo excited for this one! Knizia + Tile Layers is the best combo in boardgaming (at least for my money). Wonderfully previewed, as always!

Thanks for your review! We (game group) generally like tile laying games. Game night has grown with a variety of skill level, so I’m always on the lookout for an accessible game, easy to teach, yet enough challenge to keep the gamers interested.

Neat warmup game, looks like. I've never been a fan of the typical Knizia gameplay personally but the Solarpunk Scotland theme is rather attractive.

Sounds like a great game! The area control mechanism reminds me of Kahuna, just less brutal. Have you played MLEM yet? it's a quite thematic Reiner Knizia game, in my opinion. I feel like a brave kitty going to space.

Looks like a lovely game which is very similar to his BABYLONIA.

Because it is Knizia and a tile layer I keep thinking of my favourite Knizia - Blue Lagoon. How would say it compares in depth, replayability, and game feel?

It gets more and more difficult to decide for a Knizia. I was just about to pre-order Cascadero or Babylonia and now this? I mean it gets very crowded

Reminds me of bunny kingdom, without the drafting. I would compare those games before i choose to back this

If my wife likes kingdomino, you think this would be a safe bet right? Sounds easy to learn and quick to set up, which is a huge plus for me since it’s more likely to get played on a week night.

Open to all readers: So there's this and then there's Bebop, another hexagonal tile-laying area control game. If you had to pick between Rebirth and Bebop, which would you go for?
@ThinkerThemer
@ThinkerThemer 12 күн бұрын
We've actually played both! Rebirth is much, much lighter. Rebirth is an accessible filler style game, Bebop is very crunchy with a more complex scoring system. Bebop is likely to be the main event of game night (and more challenging for newer / younger players). They're both equally abstract. Hope that helps!

Is there conquest elements in this game?
@ThinkerThemer
@ThinkerThemer 9 күн бұрын
No it is the rebuilding of territories in a post apocalyptic setting. Note however that you are opposing clans "vying for control" so you do take over areas from each other.

But where's the airships? One's right there on the cover. 😢 The pretty art drew me in to this, but it's not what I was expecting based on that cover. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about getting end game scoring cards when you're in the midst of playing a game; I can see the potential of drawing scoring cards for things you have no chance of achieving (or that you could need to heavily alter your strategy to score), whereas others might just luck out and get cards for doing the things they were already doing. Winning or losing a game based on random card draws wouldn't be the best way to end the game, if my impressions of this are accurate.

I cant believe im about to slander the good doctor but between babylonia, cascadero and this it feels like he really is just reheating the same mechanic repeatedly
