I thunk a better idea of his power is how big it is now compared to in s1, and how much control he has over it. To the point he can safely use it as light (Compared to when he made a forcefield of electricity around him in s1) and how he released it as a harmless little zap when he realized it was a surprise party.

I just wish I had watched this one instead, because the person running the stream wouldn't shut up and stop making comments while the episode was streaming. I got so mad about it, especially because she said she wouldn't talk during it. And then she did. The recap that Claudia gave to Viren was so succinct but hinted at SO many morbid implications. Just what did Aaravos tell Claudia to do to bring her father back? Did she kill a Dragon? Sacrifice elf children? Also using the crown as a visual for how Viren's body looked after the fall is a great way to describe grotesque imagery without actually showing it to spare younger viewers of the show.

Jonathan Stroud (youth book author [e.g. Bartimaeus] once said you can transport almost every message to a young audience. You just have to find an appropriate way to do so. Then you can even tell them storys about lust, hate, violence etc. And as you mentioned the devs from the Dragon Prince just proofed again that they are great storytellers and have found a way to transport a very dark topic in a kid friendly show. I'm impressed and hyped for the things to come.

Yet, she seems unfazed by all that, bubbly as if 2 years of strife had not happened at all, it kept taking me aback. Doing gritty stuff, making hard decisions and enduring life in secrecy are things that change a person - sure, her original persona burst here and there, but the general tone should have been way more serious. And the boyfriend seems more like a Soren replacement than anything, it actually will be interesting if the father brings that up.

Based on the episode opening on him, and him being the first character to appear during the opening, it feels like Viren is being set up to become a protagonist of this season, rather than the antagonist. The antagonist role is definitely being placed with Aaravos.

Claudia to me is the most interesting character in this series. She's a "villain," but she is also very selfless...she is willing to physically sacrifice herself for those she loves. She is genuinely a sweetheart...who happens to use dark magic. She has this adorable quirkiness to her. She's helping people but in doing so is falling further into the dark side. I don't believe I've seen a "villain" quite like her before. She's an "anti-villain."

She's a naive henchman for a villain she doesn't recognise as one because of trauma (her mother leaving). So she throws herself at her father, not knowing how abusive and toxic he is. Imagine her studying magic from and with Callum instead.

Claudia and Azula are very different people in a lot of ways, but there's a lot of overlap in their power level, the pressures they face, and the expectations placed on them. As a person who's watched the first 3 seasons 11 times already. I absolutely love all the symbolism and little callbacks to previous episodes such as the ~Viren turning into a statue moment (1:53)~ which is *ONE TO ONE* the way Avizandum(king of the dragons) died including the tear falling from his eye the moment before turning into a statue and reaching out for his son (could it mean Viren will die and wouldn't be able to protect Claudia?). Furthermore, ~Callum is highly hinted to be following Viren's path in some ways ~ (disregarding the obvious one which is being a high-mage) and in his portrait with Ezran(at 24:27) in which he and Ezran are identically posed like King Harrow and Viren in the portrait in the first season. It's clear these last 3 years were not wasted and we're gonna get an absolutely astonishing season in every single way. From animation to character writing to plot complications and world-building. I cannot wait for the season to finally come out!

I love the lighting in this. Big improvement from the previous seasons. Also, everyone has DRIP. And man, the way Callum demanded to know what was going on from Soren. Not how I remember 14 year old Callum. Excellent. And yet, his going on about the mirror with Soren and Corvus, as well as his offering of the magical umbrella to the old lady and him at the party prove that he may be more assertive, but not an ass. Still the kind, gentle, good-hearted young boy we know and love. Hang in there, Sky Mage. Your beloved is coming. Corvus in the Crownguard. Him and Soren buddies. Love seeing them back on screen. As for Janaya. I guess some will be upset that we didn't get to see their relationship grow on screen until the point of Janai proposing, but with all the other events needed to be covered, maybe it's for the best. And hey, there is still plenty of time for us to see them develop their characters together. Not like their story ends rhe moment they get together The Hand of the King Seal from Game of Thrones/House of The Dragon for Barius. I enjoyed that. Also, speaking of Hand, ever since season 3 seems like Opeli is essentially Ezran's Hand of the King. She was the one who was most loyal to him in that old council. She offered that if Ezran wanted to, he could have a regent in his stead, until he came of age. So he could just enjoy his childhood. And he seems to have trusted her enough to seriously consider it and not immediately think she was trying to usurp the throne, so that says something about their relationship. And she was the one in Through The Moon that Ezran left a note for, explaining his absence.( also, her reaction. Priceless. I took it as her groaning that she's going to have to work overtime again, with last minute notice because of him leaving.) Very interested in where her character goes this season. Always liked her. I have a very good feeling about this season.

Alright, hot take: I'm not into Amaya and Janai being engaged this quickly. I understand that it's been a two year timeskip, but we don't have a lot of information on how their relationship developed to this point. Aside from season 3 and the short story about them, we didn't get to see their relationship grow, and considering how this is a really interesting pairing, it's a bit of a letdown. It just feels rushed on the writer's end. It's like if Steven Universe did its wedding episode at the end of season 2 instead of season 5. spoiler alert. they give NO REASON AT ALL as to why terry's there. despite the fact that Claudia hates all elves, and elves hate dark magic, and claudia is in their eyes a war criminal, he's just ok with that. it goes against everything the worldbuilding has done. Its possible it's because terry is trans and thus an outcast, but none of the other elven races seem to care about that and we have no indication that earthblood elves would besides "Oh no. they train dragons! look how evil they are despite the fact all other elves also tame magical beasts."

@@suorsodavit7421 there's a comic that explains it, but general gist: she and Callum were on the lunar nexus and she got a vision of Viren being alive, so she wanted revenge for her parents and planned on looking for him, Callum seeing that he couldn't stop her decided to go with her, Rayla feign accepting his offer but she left while Callum was asleep.

Feels like the Callum/Ezran part of this episode could've STARTED with the birthday, as the notion that Ezran was in any particular danger was pretty forced. I think it was maybe to show off Callum is a little bit high-strung/maybe PTSD'd up these days, but it didn't really read that way because even from his character's perspective he didn't really have any reason to believe anything was afoot. Otherwise, interesting things are afoot what with Viren being on a timer and Rayla missing.

Honestly seeing people so exited is amazing. The Dragon Prince has one of the most interesting fantasy settings, so much so I have seen DnD games set in that universe. The fandom it has created might not be a giant one but it's and overwhelmingly loud one. And it only shouts positivity which makes me so proud

Half a year ago i started watching this because my daughter, who then just turned 3 loved it. Now we are both hooked, and even though we watched everything already, we still watch an episode almost every day. Its a real father daughter moment for us each time. Love the show, cant wait for the rest of season 4

CAN WE ALL PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO ACKOWLEDGE HOW THE ANIMATORS POPPED OFF WITH THIS SMOOTHER, DETAILED, AND OVERALL CRISPER STYLE??? It was a two-year wait but they made it well worth it, I'm in love. The blurs, the transitions, the slight movement in subjects not even in main focus??? I'm only five minutes in but I already need to list a few highlights: 0:15 VIRENS PUPILS?????????? 3:06 appreciating Callum's new design with all the details, you can see the pages in his book it's so crisp omg and the lighting has changed 3:22 WATCH THEIR SHADOWS 3:40 zoom in on the rain detail and transition up to Callum was so smooth, THE MAGIC ANIMATION?? THE SMOKE???? THE LIGHT ILLUMINATING FROM IT??? 3:54 they even made the background characters more detailed I'm so impressed 3:58 WATCH THE LADY you can see the rain landing on her but it stops when he puts the umbrella over her this detail is GENIUS 4:14 SOREN AND CORVUS! enough said. they both look great. 4:28 they way they all move is so smooth, SOREN'S FACIAL EXPRESSIONS ARE SO SMOOTH 4:48 Soren and Corvus can still be seen walking in the background, although blurred you can tell they are still conversating, just a detail that must be appreciated 5:09 you can barely see it but the candle fire is slightly moving 5:17 THE VERY SLIGHT MOVEMENT OF THE STATUE AS CROW LORD LEANS ON IT AND THE WAY IT MOVES WITH HIM?????? 5:30 THE RAIN ON THE WINDOW AND THE BLURR TRANITION??? ALSO OPELI LOOKS SO CRISP AND HER MOVEMENTS ARE SO SMOOTH I LOVE HER DESIGN 5:39 the way Callum looks up and to the side, the facial expressions go along with the dialog so well ok I'm done, I could honestly do the whole video if I wasn't so excited to see the rest of it!
