Reborn with Me! Part 1: Getting Started

This is the second video in the "Reborn with Me!" series. Please check out the intro at • You're Invited to Rebo... .
Before beginning the reborning process, we need to take care of a few things:
1. Gathering all the needed supplies
2. Inserting the eyes
3. Taking "Before" Photos
This video will walk you through all the stuff I bought to create this baby doll. I'll also give a detailed tutorial on opening the eye sockets and inserting half-round eyes. And we'll wrap it up with posing the baby for Before Photos.
Before Photos are optional. I like to take them because it makes the process more fun for mommies. But you'll save time if you skip it. In fact, when I create several dolls from the same doll kit, I'll keep reusing the original Before Photos!

I just finished my first reborn, a sleeping baby, and am really happy with it! I used your rooting video for the hair and now I have an awake kit arriving any day so will be using this tutorial for inserting its eyes. +tanya ayala You have a valid concern. Vinyl releases fumes while it is hot. But the cooled parts and completed doll will be fine. I minimize my intake of fumes by: - Keeping the oven outside of my primary work space. A NuWave is easy to sit outside, in a garage or other well-ventilated area. - Using my oven only for dolls. Some of the chemicals evaporated from vinyl stick to the inside of the oven. When heated, they return to gaseous form and can attach to any food you've placed in the oven. So please avoid curing dolls in any oven you'd also use for cooking. With air-dry paints, there is no heating of the vinyl. However, some acrylics release ammonia and formaldehyde (think nasty nail polish smell) when they dry. So it is difficult to reborn toxin-free. But there are ways to minimize your exposure to them. Hope that helps!

Hi. I'm going to follow your full tutorial as I paint my baby as I am starting in about a week or 2. As I watch tutorials, I usually get a lot of questions that pop into my head so if I could ask you those that would be awesome. I keep it strictly to reborning and thats it. My question right now is what is the exact purpose for the plugs? Would Polyfil work as a substitute so I don't have to buy plugs? I'm getting the head ring and maybe the arm and leg rings so they can turn but I want to know about the Polyfil instead of the plugs.

Thank you and welcome to the wonderful world of reborning! Plugs simply hold in the stuffing. Tightly packed Poly-Fil should be fine. Some artists glue over the opening instead of using plugs.

CustomDollBaby.com Thank you. I got everything off of Bountiful Baby and I have already started reborning. Your mottling tutorial has helped me emensly. Although, I have done 2 blue layers, 2 purples, and I even did what I call the blood red layer and I still need to do a bit more. Would that mean that my paint is too diluted so it is not showing up as well?

You're exactly right! If you can't see your mottling, you may need to add a little more paint to the thinner. Just be careful not to go too dark. They will get a little brighter after the first flesh coat.

Hello. Thank you so, so much for taking your time to make these tutorials! My daughter just got custody of my great, great niece and nephews that have been in foster care almost 2 years. It took that long to get the parental rights removed. Anyway, I had ordered a reborn kit several years ago and never got around to doing it and now am able to do it as a project with this sweet little girl that we have been so blessed with. I have a question for you, I bought a kit off of eBay, and the kit didn't come with any limb plugs or a neck ring, I tried to look up the kit on the internet but because it's a limited Edition sold out kit, there are no specific details about the kit. so my question is how do I tell what ring and limb plugs I need to order?

I just tried to reverse-engineer it from a kit I have in my workshop. It appears that you measure the flange across (diameter) and add 5mm. So Summer Rain is 60mm across the flange and it takes a 65mm neck ring. Same with the plugs. Measure across the opening and add 5mm. Plugs and rings aren't too expensive, so you might get the next size up or down at the same time just in case.

Will we use all those paints? my mom is financing this as I get started and we don't have the money to buy a ton of paint. I'm thinking of getting like an 8 pack of genesis heat set paints off ebay because they are about 45$. would that be good enough? and with those paints that I'll be getting, could I mix them to make a good paint color for the hair? I don't know all that is in the set but there are some darker colors
