In this Pro Tips 4U sports training boxing video, Denver Nuggets Center JaVale McGee, goes over Rebounding & Boxing Out. Learn the secrets of visually watching your opponent as the shot goes up and moving when they move. You’ll also learn the correct way to pivot so as not to lose your opponent. JaVale also explains why sometime you may just be asked to box out without going for the rebound and when you’re on offense the correct way to fake out the defender to lose him as the shot goes up.
JaVale McGee is the starting center for the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. He was the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NBA draft following a successful two-year collegiate career at the University of Nevada in Reno. During his NBA career, he has averaged nine points, six rebounds and two blocked shots per game. JaVale participated in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest where he finished in second place. He was the first player to use three balls at one time in a dunk contest, which was later cited by the Guinness World Records as the most number of basketballs dunked in a single jump.
JaVale's basketball instructional videos for Pro Tips 4U focus on how you can improve your game in the post. His tips include how to do a hook shot, rebounding and boxing out, dunking, passing in the post, how to block a shot, dribbling drills, how to shoot free throws and how to jump shoot.

I found this video very useful. I like how he waits for his player to look away before he goes for the rebound

My 11 year old son is the biggest kid on the floor....he hasn't realized this yet. I don't get enough time with him. Every other weekend and a couple hours during the week aren't enough time for me to teach him to be a man, let alone time to teach how to go for the rebound. So I'm thankful for these videos. I'll be sending them to him

Good tutorial, needed a refresh after struggling, I like the idea of waiting for the defender to go after the rebound before reacting, good stuff.

I grab lots of defensive rebounds without even jumping, because I do goob box outs that keep my man away from the basket. And I'm not counting all the times my teammates grab rebounds thanks to me.

He boxes out good but Not the best way of doing it. Best way is to bend your knees and then seal the guy behind you with your hands. It creates 2 foot space in which the other guy can't reach into because your butt is creating it. It also creates a clear path to jump and if he jumps with you its a foul on him. Bill Russell Red ball its on KZbin. Bill Russell is 2nd all time in RPG and Rebounds.

Super helpful until the end where the tip is: easily get rid of a rebound when you're on offense by simply jumping over the guy defending you and dunking on him. Think that might be a bit beyond me for now!!

isn't boxing out a moving screen?
@JetRoseLive
@JetRoseLive 5 жыл бұрын
No, a moving screen is when you're setting a screen on a defender and you're moving. On a screen or "pick and roll" that's when you have to be still. What boxing out is, is you playing defense to try and get the rebound and start your teams offensive possession.
