Great looking knife and my favorite model. I carry a Walden version everyday and they've been my favorites since the seventies. I have an old NIB NY tang stamp stored as a back up as well. I bought a book 30 years ago and learned how to repair pocketknives. I've done several Schrade knives over the years. The one thing I would never do is to put a stainless steel blade in a frame with carbon blades... I don't like stainless for one thing, but I also like my knives to age well from the backsprings to the blades. I don't like modern carbon steel pocket knives because they use stainless backsprings in every single one of them I've found.

Preacher Man, and I say that with all respect, I love and appreciate your videos. I greatly enjoy seeing Christian men getting out into the world and representing Christ thru their words and actions- which is what we’re called to do… I’m sure your love of knives are a far 2,3,or4 from your love of the Good Lord, and if you explain God’s Word like you explain knives your knife videos, then you are an awesome pastor! @@jth56 thank you! I do most of my sanding with a 400-grit belt. I move to a 220 grit on occasion, and keep a couple of 80 grit for really aggressive material removal. I used to keep higher grits, but found that I can go from 400 straight to the polishing wheel.

Do you have a method for repairing hairline cracks on bone handles. If so I would be interested in seeing it.
@southernknifehobbyist4 ай бұрын
@@KevinCummins-n3j The best that I know of is to clean it with alcohol several times, picking out any dirt with a needle. After drying, use a thin super glue. Apply multiple layers if needed. Some people swear by Zap-a-Gap in 3 different thicknesses. Sometimes you can still see the crack, but it keeps it from spreading.

Hey Scott, I think that the 8ot is the best stockman that Schrade came out with. I really love it. You have made a very nice looking knife out of a good knife. I love the way you show how to go thru the processes to get the outcome that you want. The covers came out great and I would be proud to carry that knife around. What is the long pin material that you use for your pins and where can I get them? Do you sell your knives or are they just for your personal collection? Thanks you for any help you can give me - later

@NGMountains4 ай бұрын
Scott in your opinion what would you consider the most durable of natural handle materials. Cattle bone, deer stag or hardwood like hickory or walnut?
@southernknifehobbyist4 ай бұрын
@@NGMountains Great question! Hardwoods are probably the most durable, as they are more pliable. Antler would be a close second, then bone. Bone can make some of the prettiest handles to me, but it does crack easily.

What are you using for pin stock for your pivot pins?

@@1anthonybrowning I buy pin stock from Jantz, a knife-maker supplier. Occasionally I will get brass rods from Hobby Lobby or an Ace Hardware store, but they may only have a few sizes.
