As an advocate to rebuilding the original Twin Towers, I will give the new site this: It is a beautiful site will very modern futuristic buildings, showing the world how far we've come. The reflecting pools are a great memorial, though looking down where once we looked up is a bit sad. All in all it actually is not a bad complex, I would love to see it become a place of comerse and international trade again as well as a good retail and travel headquarters. But I can't help but feel a little cheated having to give up one icon for another. It's like trading the Golden Gate Bridge for Mount Rushmore. We need to recreate at least some of what was there, maybe not on hallowed ground but somewhere else like Upper Manhattan alongside the Chrisler and Empire State Buildings. Then we can have the best of both and still honor this day properly.
@kingsk01339 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. They have kept the original name (the one world trade center), but the building does look a lot different, which in my opinion is a better way to go. If they looked too similar, then it would be too much of a reminder of the attacks on the old WTC. but they do need to keep some of the original buildings. For example they could keep the same floor layout or something like that.
@aguy78489 жыл бұрын
Yes, rebuilding the twins would probably bring back some bad memories but I think it would be worth it for future generations. They belong in New York. And I don't think I'll truly be satisfied until we rebuild them.
@Balnazzardi9 жыл бұрын
+Ross Geller Well I think in a way rebuilding them would be disrespectful, like try to forget what happened by rebuilding them. people who died deserved a memorial site and that memorial site could not be anywhere else than at the exact same spot where the towers once stood. And I think that building those pools at the exact same spots and by planting all those trees around it was simply beautiful idea and the new tower next to the memorial represents the future and that life also goes on.
@smittywerbenjagermanjensen36489 жыл бұрын
I think NOT rebuilding them and pretending they never existed is acting like it never happened. The Twin Towers before 9/11 were symbols of New York and America. Today they symbolize the attack. To rebuild would restore their place in America's legacy and if we give into fear and never bring them back, it'll be what the terrorists wanted.
@smittywerbenjagermanjensen36489 жыл бұрын
Also, I never said they had to be on the original spot, just somewhere in Manhattan. And there are lots of places in Manhattan where they can be rebuilt.

We don't need a new beginning. We must restore our skyline. The current World Trade Center may be complete but we can still build the twin towers 2 somewhere else on Manhattan for historic preservation purposes. This could include a 9-11 firefighters memorial and would include a replica of the original world trade center 3-7 and hotel. The twin towers represents the triumphant liberty that capitalism provides all of us. Lets cherish the past and pay tribute to the victims of 9-11 by restoring the skyline for a more prosperous future for New York City.

It would be cool to have them rebuilt I guess but I wouldn't like to see them as much as these new towers. In my opinion these new towers make us look stronger and wealthier than the Twin Towers did, and I think these new ones will make even more people from other places in the world look up to us. Also I don't like the idea of twinning the new 1 WTC because that would honestly cost too much and raise too much concern, and plus by having four original towers instead, it shows our country's ingenuity.

I think the idea and subsequent finalized design of the two pools and the memorial museum were absolutely perfect in every way. The new tower, however, is beautiful but not as nice as the old one, and i think we all can agree, there should be TWO of them. It just feels like somethings missing, like the terrorists won, in a way. We should have built them very similarly but bigger and higher, and of course, two of them.

Over the past 3 years I've been studying why they should've rebuilt the marvellous Twin Towers of the WTC. And, it finally hit me on why lots of people "don't like the new buildings". I think they actually do like them,, because they are a good design and it represents a change in the New York skyline by using modern architecture, the REAL reason is because they don't belong in the WTC Complex, the twin towers should've. Here is what the should and could do... Clearly, the politicians of NY & NJ want change in the skyline, I get that. But instead of having new fancy architecture in 1 16 acre spot, why not scatter the buildings into areas where there aren't a lot of tall buildings and popular areas. That will give the illusion (and possibly the beginning) that the new future skyline of New York, is coming faster, better, and stronger in a way. With more areas becoming popular, more tall modern buildings will appear in the NYC skyline. A new generation of NYC will come faster than one 16 Acre area. But not only the future of the New York Skyline will change, but even more chances of opportunity will come. I mean, New York is supposed to be a place where anything is possible, right? And so, why not rebuild the twin towers back in the WTC Complex and deconstruct the parts of 1 WTC and move those parts to the center of the NYC skyline. But here is how it's going to work, economically, first, this plan for NYC has to be announced, and they would also have to move 2 WTC and 3 WTC into different parts of the skyline first. In the meantime, construction for the south tower of the original complex will begin. So people can still have an observatory in lower Manhattan. Once the south tower is finished, the roof observation deck on each side, will have all the names of the heroes and the people who lost their lives on Sept 11 01, all their names will be on glass panels. This will explain in a way, that not only that there is a memorial on the ground like the pools on the footprints, but a memorial in the sky, closest to the heavens in the open breeze. Once twin 2 WTC is finished, the deconstruction of 1 WTC will commence. And what is irremovable is important for the north tower. And I mean the strong core. 1WTC in a way, was exactly the same height as the original TT. So the core must be also. With just a few modifications in the blueprints, we could fit the exterior of the NT over the core. Once we have the NT and ST completed, it will be the perfect restoration. It would be great to rebuild the twin towers, because, people need to know that these buildings existed in New York, and what better way to do that by no only having New Yorkers of this era and later eras seeing architecture of the past, present, and future, but to EXPERIENCE the past, present, and future, all in this one big city. Everyone gets what they want in New York, more buildings, more popular areas to visit, more money made for the Port Authority and Silv. Properties. People who wanted the twin towers, will get the twin towers. People who will want the new modern architecture, will get that too (1WTC, 2WTC, and 3WTC will still remain) in the NYC skyline. And yes, all this will cost a lot of money, because deconstructing parts of a high rise building is extremely expensive nether less time consuming. But it will be worth it. Because before 2 and 3 WTC is completed, they can start moving those buildings to make them stand out and make the ENTIRE NYC SKYLINE LOOK STRONGER and a lot more modern instead of 1 16 Acre spot. In fact, not destroying the core of the new 1 WTC should be cheaper than destroying it and rebuilding it again. I'm going to Silverstein Properties next August to pitch them the idea. Hopefully, this will change the NYC Skyline, 'for the better'. The final reason why they should put the towers there instead of moving them in a different site, is because the towers are one of the most recognizable piece of architecture in the New York skyline. And I know rebuilding something 40 years ago seems strange, but it isn't. In fact, twin skyscrapers were an idea made before it should have. And also, with the blank giant rectangular shapes in the skyline, it would be like rebuilding the pools to see from afar. When you are leaving from work, when your on the highway, when you are walking in Central Park, you can look up and instead of gasping in amazement with brand new glass architecture, the TT had a simple exterior that makes you relaxe, and give you a chance to not only think about the buildings strength and scale, but makes you think about all the people who lost their lives on 9/11. Again, it's like the reflecting pools, but seen as buildings from afar. I look at the twin towers as a rose (because like the old buildings, it's simple looking, but means a lot in a way) and it is the rose to the tombstone of 3000 lost lives (the memorial pools.) With the new building at the site, it's like putting something that is high tech and modernized, like a phone or a tablet. Or having the tombstone flash lights and it's all glass and what not. The TT are like a rose on a tombstone for the 3000 lives lost, but it's a rose that can be seen from afar... It's a simple item, but it means a lot. With the new buildings, it's like a rose tombstone to the lost lives seen from afar... But with high tech curvy new architecture as your tombstone. In a way, it's kind of like putting an iPhone with the picture of a rose on that tombstone. But again, the twin towers had a simply seemingly windowless design. And that's just all you need. Also, to the people who have a hint of fear on going into those buildings. They need to know that the chances of a bombing or a plane crash are very VERY slim, and the towers will be stronger than before. I mean, the airports have really tight security. The BUILDINGS have security, how else can they attack? Even if it would be an accidental hit into the building, the chances are also slim. Also, they shouldn't change the exterior design of the TT, modernize the interior but for the love of God leave the exterior alone. It was perfect the way it was. Hopefully, this post gives people more chance to think. PS: Don't put the TT over the old footprints where 3000 died. That'd be sickening. And don't let Donald Trump be involved, most likely he will call it 'TRUMP TWIN TOWERS' (we all know how thoughtless and self centred he is.)

During the Months leading up to 9/11, there were many vacant floors undergoing “renovations”. The elevators were also going through upgrades which took months to complete, and allowed hundreds of tradesmen, laden with tonnes of parts and equipment, free access into both buildings and in particular, the elevator shafts which provided access to every column. The weekend before 9/11 there was no operational security in the building for the best part of 2 days. This information is not a conspiracy theory, it is easily verified by the Port Authority service records. There was more than enough time & opportunity to completely wire both buildings for a controlled explosion. Wake up America, your Governments have a history of doing this. Use some of your intelligence to seek the truth yourself. May all the victims of 9/11 RIP.

Adam Cederblad Ok I get that. I just wish it was two of them side by side. I loved coming into new-york and seeing those towers from a distance. billowing and shining in the late afternoon sun. Now you cant make it out when I'm coming over the bridge from new England. Its such a great loss. Still..

minicakes4444 They were planning to build ''World Trade Center Twin Towers II'' (before they came up with the idea of 1WTC), but the idea was later scrapped because they thought no one would work in them either.
@lukegalvin32949 жыл бұрын
minicakes4444 I think the two original towers look a lot better than the new one, but one reason they wouldn't rebuild the same towers is due to the fact that people might not want to work in two towers that look exactly like the ones that collapsed before. When Titanic went down her sister ship Olympic offered to help in the rescue but it was denied due to the fact that survivors wouldn't want to board a ship that looks exactly like the one that just sank.

I was 2 months old on the day of 9/11, I lived in Australia and always have. In other words I had nothing to do with the attacks, but every time I watch a piece of footage from that horrible day, I am moved and feel proud of a country I don't even live in. Although I was lucky enough not to recall the events of that day, I always have the thousands of people that perished or lost someone that day in my heart. R.I.P

I hated being in the 9/11 memorial and the 1 WTC. Not only is it sad, but I was constantly on edge and worried that something was going to happen. I’m not an anxious person, but this was very eerie. Very scary honestly. It’s a beautiful memorial, but I don’t think I could work there or want to.

They needed to rebuild the Twins, taller and stronger than before. There will always be a hole in the sky that terrorists can point to, and say "That is what we are capable of, that is what we can do.". We needed to rebuild better, not different.

Everything looks beautiful. I need to go see the waterfalls and museum one day but to be honest I don't think I'll ever go up in that tower no matter how strong you say it is. I was 5 when 9/11 happened and even I'm too scared to go up there.

I would like to visit the memorial. We always go to NYC every year because of family. Unfortunately, I’ve never been able to go because my mom never wished to. She lived in NY for five years in the 80s and now never wished to return to the site because it brings too much pain. The plan is to go when I am in college.
