@@tylerbeverley7777 I guess....it just makes me cringe seeing no torqueing or assembly lube on the main bearings. I mean the tolerances on an engine are in the thousandths and assembly damn near needs to be drenched all over those bearings,cam lobes,etc. Not hating but there is just no way this engine has the proper lubrication upon initial startup and whatnot.

@txbarker78
@txbarker78 2 жыл бұрын
@@LeCobra. I could if I had instructions.......aviation techs are considered unskilled labor (I think) because we're taught to go by the maintenance manuals...and they're constantly updated so you have to pull manual for every job every time. We could even get in trouble using one even a day old per FAA regs. I do feel stupid trying to diagnose my own truck problems when talking to a licensed auto tech.....lol....im not knocking them at all. And its not that I can't do the same work and do it correctly, hell, they trained monkeys to go to space......its all about the training. But in aviation if you dont have the paperwork done right there's a very real threat of federal jail time. Most aviation accidents boil down to improper maintenance that causes a series of catastrophic failures that bring birds down, and thats when the FAA really digs into paperwork to find out who screwed up. Thats why after crashes you'll find techs, managers and supervisors commit suicide. On top of the deaths they cause its federal jail time.

On a side note, i fully agree with you. I have always used assembly lube, never put an engine together dry! You can NEVER use too much lubrication on a engine rebuild. I've been guilty of not exactly using a torque wrench on oil pans & valve covers, but i ALWAYS use a torque wrench on rods, mains, heads, intake manifolds. I guess I'm old school as i always plasti- guage rods & mains. I've seen a number of guys rebuild engines here in the states, some high performance engines, & they say you don't need to plasti-guage rods & mains. Guess i just always like to know, & don't take the risk of an engine knocking after I've done alot of hard work building it & installing it.

There are guys who know from EXPERIENCE how tight to get bolts especially head bolts. I have seen guys that were so good they could get the bolts tightened very close to specs.

Why cylinder sleeves are without fit? They are placed by hand....but it should have tight fit, and then machined and honed

It depends on the engine, and the type of liners it has, dry liners are interference fit in the block and require machining after fitting, while wet liners rely on o rings to seal the liners in the block, wet liners are easily pushed into the block by hand and don't require machining after assembly.

New bearings, possibly crank grind, no plasty gauge used to determine correct bearing crush and oil gap...oh well, each unto their own.
