After working in aviation for 13 years and the strict use of calibrated tools and maintenance manuals and rule and regulations these videos makes my butthole pucker.....but they still do a better job than most of the half-assed mechanics i see working on cars in san antonio tx

I bet you won’t be able to rebuild a one piston engine with your 13 years experience following “rules and regulations” .
@txbarker78
@txbarker78 2 жыл бұрын
@@LeCobra. I could if I had instructions.......aviation techs are considered unskilled labor (I think) because we're taught to go by the maintenance manuals...and they're constantly updated so you have to pull manual for every job every time. We could even get in trouble using one even a day old per FAA regs. I do feel stupid trying to diagnose my own truck problems when talking to a licensed auto tech.....lol....im not knocking them at all. And its not that I can't do the same work and do it correctly, hell, they trained monkeys to go to space......its all about the training. But in aviation if you dont have the paperwork done right there's a very real threat of federal jail time. Most aviation accidents boil down to improper maintenance that causes a series of catastrophic failures that bring birds down, and thats when the FAA really digs into paperwork to find out who screwed up. Thats why after crashes you'll find techs, managers and supervisors commit suicide. On top of the deaths they cause its federal jail time.

@@tylerbeverley7777 I guess....it just makes me cringe seeing no torqueing or assembly lube on the main bearings. I mean the tolerances on an engine are in the thousandths and assembly damn near needs to be drenched all over those bearings,cam lobes,etc. Not hating but there is just no way this engine has the proper lubrication upon initial startup and whatnot.

Shh!! We're supposed to be magically impressed by their work🤣🤣 At least that's what i get told every time i comment about the poor work,lack of safety, primitive conditions. On a side note, i fully agree with you. I have always used assembly lube, never put an engine together dry! You can NEVER use too much lubrication on a engine rebuild. I've been guilty of not exactly using a torque wrench on oil pans & valve covers, but i ALWAYS use a torque wrench on rods, mains, heads, intake manifolds. I guess I'm old school as i always plasti- guage rods & mains. I've seen a number of guys rebuild engines here in the states, some high performance engines, & they say you don't need to plasti-guage rods & mains. Guess i just always like to know, & don't take the risk of an engine knocking after I've done alot of hard work building it & installing it.

I've once went to Pakistan for a documentary. These engines last between 3-4 years before needing another rebuild. and that's combined with everyday truck overloading, long trips and harsh dusty conditions. I must say, despite me hating their way of rebuilding engines without proper special tools and following strict measurements/torque specs, I must give props to em' for how long their rebuilt engines last.

I don’t think these mechanics and owners worry about the long term used of this engine after rebuild. They just want it work, even though the engine gonna last 3 months, the owners still thumb 🆙 💪🏻💪🏻to this mechanics and say they are the best.

You clearly don't know much about auto mechanics. Not using a torque wrench or engine installation grease is not the sign of skill or talent. The only thing it guarantees is that the engine will be back in that shop or trashed in the near future. I will take a European mechanic any day over this stupid crap.
