Glad to see you back working of the VIII. I'm guessing bad valve guides or maybe the cylinders were previously bored out not using a torque plate. Measure those cylinder walls with a torque plate bolted in to see if they're out of spec.

Your oil control rings can be worn and you still get a completely normal compression test. Thats why you have no discernible loss of power. You don’t do you? If you’ve done the valve seals it is most definitely your rings. Sorry bro. #leakdown

4:14 well, i had the same thing with some shitty gy6 50cc scooter, the compression was mint, but it smoked even more than any vw tdi or any bad mixed 2 stroke lol. Changed the piston and the problem was gone. Love the content!

I thought you do a leak down test with each piston at TDC for that cylinder. Also, check the exhaust for sound. .

That is my understanding and how I have always performed a leak down test. Piston at TDC of the compression stroke so all the valves are closed.

could be oil control rings wore out or cylinder wear that is beyond .004 then you could be getting oil past the rings or warped head letting gasket leak.
