EA888 I think. Had one in my S1 until some light fingered lad made off with it. A dependable mill if not the best sounding. Eventually he totalled it into a telegraph pole. Lack of morals and talent! Great video as ever Ricky and puns have their plaice.

Love the video's Rick, i work at a vw dealer. If you got a new original chain you don't have to mark the balance shafts. The new chain got marks that you need to put I line with the marks on the gears. Same for the main chain but you check the piston in bdp and the distance between the marks on the camshafts. According to Elsa anyway

Great video, loving the general chat about magazines and publishing. I was a press and motorbike photographer for nearly 15yrs..At local and regional newspapers and smaller magazines...I saw the change start to happen when imagining went digital, it was made "easier" for a reporter or a non photographer with "point and shoot" to take a quick "snap" photographic departments got smaller, "staffers" were lost, freelancers found it harder to get work. I love a good hard copy magazine, It helps you appreciate the quality of the images and lets you read in a more relaxed...I'm into bikes and over the years there have been so many magazines finish, due to the financial pressures...cost of printing, cost of staffing, advertising see online as a much more flexible way of getting trade.....it's now all about "tik tok" etc...what you look like and the "pretty people".... Just interesting to hear Davla's point of view.... Very therapeutic build to watch....and I love the bike and racing content too...🏍️🤘

I always make 3 dots with a paint pen or centre punch to avoid misalignment…. It is easy with just two marks viewed at different angles to look aligned but be out… three dots makes this obvious 👍

I cant believe how long it took him fucking around with the valve retainers even tough his got it on a industrial press. all you need to do is, have anything under the tool or the item your using that contacts the top of the spring cap, that has a hole in it where its wide enough so lets the tip of the valve to push thru, but tight enough that it doesnt allow the retainers to go thru, so it drags them down while valve goes thru it, this can be literally a bottle cap, you put under the the tip thats going to contact the spring cap. I use a white/clearish cap coz you can alost see thru them, and allows to see that the retainers are staying in while you release the spring. or you can even use a socket, thats just big enough to let the valve go thru it. llike an 8mm socket, depending on your valves stem size. even the 8mm sockets weights enough to push the retainers down while letting te valve slide thru it. you literally dont even have to hold it in place, one youve placed the reianers on both sides of the valve. press the spring and cap down, they just literally fall in to place, with a socket, bottle cap, or even a tough piece of plastic. ive even used a 5 dollar Australian note, when I had nothing else. and it works everytime without fail. but once youve pressed the cap and spring like he did on the machine. and your trying to put the retainers in by hand, your making your life so much harder. because once pressed. the gap between the stem and cap is never even, its always pushing one side more than the other. because of the valves angle on the head. and his trying to get them in place where the gaps around the stem are now uneven. what that causes, which he will know very well is, only one of the retainers falling into the grove, when you release the spring, the other half slips out, and only one retainer is holding the whole thing, because the uneven gap caused, due to pressing the spring down without placing the retainers around the stem into the cap gap around the stem. even if they hold, because he doesnt use any lube when putting the retainers in, because of trying to putem in by hand after pressings, they are uneven, when you start the car, you hear so much chatter due to the retainers trying to setlle in, with no lube. its just a bad idea. they tighten way before the oil gets there. Its common sense. Due to the design and shape, of the retainers. they dont fall off, the cap when placed around the stem. on top of the cap. slips and goes thru with the valve, coz the wide side is at the top. They slide down and literally end up in their grove , release the spring and their in place. this is for every engine that has that design. from LS to 2J, Peugeot to VW works without fail. I wouldnt delete this comment. then I will have to make a video and link it showing you how its done and thats never good :) just saying.

Do not locktite the belt bolt at the end of the intake balance shaft. If you do so, if by any chance the water pump needs to be replaced again, it will be, 100% impossible, to remove the bolt from the engine bay. The bolt is tapered and is reverse thead, it will NOT loosen on its own. If the bolt gets stripped you will have to pull the engine out! so do not use threadlocker with the water pump pulley reverse thread bolt!

if you get a gates timing tool set for these engines you get a big plastic spacer for the crankshaft so when you put the bolt in the face of the sprocket doesn't get damaged

I had one of the first 2,0 tfsi Sirrocco’s in Mallorca many years ago lasted 950km and the engine shit itself, from memory I went into the Vw workshop and one of the small sprockets was missing half its teeth, happened approaching a roundabout at about 60km the Forman said the computer said the car was doing 200 kmh absolute bollocks , took them six weeks to replace the complete engine 😳

If you were to put in new lifters in the mk6 gti engine would you have to drain the lifters and put them in empty or would you put them straight in from the box ?

EA888 gen 1 is what came in the mk6 GTI (CCZ). IHI turbo equivalent to a Borgwarner K03, chain etc. Badged as a TSI on the engine cover. The screenshot of the red mk6 you flashed up was not a GTI, but a mk6 R (actually a press car that IIRC Andrew Chapple owned for a bit and I nearly bought). VAG used the EA113 CDL in the mk6 R rather than the new EA888. Probably because it was proven in the 8P S3 at ~270bhp with Haldex and more robust than a highly strung gen 1 EA888 might have been. Apparently stronger bottom end than the BWA/AXX EA113 of the mk5 GTI, but still prone to piston ring failure at high power (I know this personally unfortunately). They decided to stick a TSI badge on the mk6 R engine cover even though it’s an older TFSI, just to keep us guessing a bit!
@psiturbo
@psiturbo 9 ай бұрын
the gti mk6 bottom end is almost indestructible, can take a beating. The issue with the EA888 is the pistons and pistons rings, and the dreaded oil screens throught the engine. Almost all the components have been revised, balance shafts, cam bridge, pistons, rings, timing chain side metal cover, tensioner and even the timing chain itself.

Ricky , the machine that you use for inserting the valve collets. Does the pneumatic cylinder have any speed control? Most pneumatic systems will control cylinder speed through a restriction exhaust valve on the directional control valve. I just feel the up stroke needs to be a bit slower to prevent the collets jumping out. I loved this episode buddy, nuts, bolts , grease and tool is my bag. 👍👊

I think the idea of why car magazines fail is because they have not learnt from Cooking. Autodoc has done well because they do a video saying how to do it. Here are the tools you need and we can send this in with the parts you need. Harrys garage or 44teeth have done well as its like watching Keith Flyod in a foreign country. Car magazines and journos haven't realised that KZbin is there to make me buy the magazine to find out more or link to buy something from the advertisers. Not just entertainment.
