Ya know when we all start working on our own projects, we start digging a hole so deep we run into that "Pebble Beach" sand. You Go Rob, anyone would be Proud to have that car with the amount of "Labor of Love " you're putting into it. VERY Nice so far.

I went to a Coffee and Cars this morning. There were two MGBs and one MGT but no Midgets. That is motivation to get it finished and show it off.

Progress is progress; gotta keep moving forward. Man, that’s some heavy stuff right there. Although I did the same thing to my A-post, I still cringed when you started beating it with the ball peen hammer. It makes me feel good to see it coming together, so I know you feeling good about it. I'm continually impressed with your work.

You noticed I didn’t show all of the beating with a hammer.

@@robsrestorationgarage the world is your oyster, I guess. Lacking a body panel to fix, there's always the brake subsystem, the pedal box, the engine, the transmission, the steering rack, four corners worth of suspension, rear axle, boot floor, wind screen, I'm running out of entries in the Moss catalog, LOL (just scrolling through their online catalog finding parts for my projects and figured I could just be a wise ass and rattle off the systems I also need to touch) except I'm not as far along on the bodies! Someday you'll watch "Ken's Restoration Garage" and two simultaneous Bugeye restores :-) in a few years maybe

@@robsrestorationgarage I'm doing a rolling restoration on a 1976 midget done the passenger side floor next the drivers side it's a bit harder to weld though
@robsrestorationgarage2 жыл бұрын
Yeah with the car completely together it would be tough to weld especially if you can’t lift the car way up off the ground. The space is very tight.

Hey Rob looking good! Glad to see your still at it. I've been keeping at my project I just haven't been very good at posting videos. I'm going to try to do a better job of sharing. Seeing your video definitely inspires me.

The outer sill and A pillar videos are a fantastic reference for me as it’s what I’m currently doing. Also I just noticed you’ve got a Hobart 140. Funny enough I just picked one up used to do my repairs.
@robsrestorationgarage Жыл бұрын
@Tim Holt I am glad it is helpful. I would say that anyone who owns a Midget will be doing these same repairs. I really like the Hobart 140. Once you get it dialed in, it works great. Are you using gas with it or primarily fluxcore?
@perludus Жыл бұрын
@@robsrestorationgarage using gas. I have a cheap flux welder and was never able to do much with it. The difference between it and the Hobart with gas is night and day! Gives me a huge confidence boost to start some of the more challenging repairs.

Great work on the Midget. Interesting you saying that you use weld through primer because I have just finished doing one side of my floor pan and I did the same. Every joint got a coat of weld through primer which I let dry over night. My plug welds were horrible sparking like a firework display. It did not matter if I was welding to the old metal or the new panel. Looking up on You tube the consensus seems to be do not use weld through primer especially the zinc kind as it contaminates the weld pool. The primer is intended for resistance spot welds not plug welds. Your welds look good what type of wire are you using? Flux or gas and what voltage? I was advised to up the voltage which did help a lot.
@robsrestorationgarage2 жыл бұрын
I haven't really had any problems with the weld through primer. I don't wait overnight for mine to dry, more like 30 minutes. The wire I am using is .030 and is 18 ga with gas. I have tried flux core and didn't like it. The gas works great. The welder doesn't really have actual voltage settings but I have it set on 2 with a wire speed of 30. If I am reading the manual right, I think this puts the voltage at less than 20.

@@robsrestorationgarage Hello Rob. Thank you. I have finished a TR3A a couple of years ago and the Midget I am working on kind of fell into my lap.

Welding sheet metal is never beautiful. It's a bunch of small welds that you grind off. When I repaired all the rust outs on my Midget, I felt like I was grinding a new car out of metal. So if your welds are effective and you burn holes now and then , you are doing good. Your work looks great.

I appreciate the reminder. Sometimes it does feel like I am sweeping up enough metal dust to build a whole new car!

I don’t know what the measurements are on the doors but I believe you can modify either doors to fit. You just have to make sure the lines are right
