Might mention that after rebuild male sure the outfeed lines into the block is not clogged because the preasure will blow out gas around the o ring on the red valve

Hi Brandon! thanks for the awesome videos! Have you ever converted a Choke Solenoid to Primer Solenoid on the V4 X-Flows?

Ive replaced all of my fuel lines and primer bulb and i noticed i have a small drip coming from this primer solenoid where the four screws are could this be why my motor will not hold a prime ?

Hello - I noticed that when I squeeze my primer bulb and it gets hard, gas will leak out of the red valve. Once its started and going, no leaks...only when pressing. I replaced the red valve, same issue. Is this normal? Thoughts? Solenoid works fine and clicks, everything is operational - just when i squeeze the bulb and it gets hard gas will drip from the red valve..

Hi. I followed your vid but my solenoid leaks now. Should I use some gasket sealer?

So I have a 200 Johnson. My primer pump has two small hoses and one bigger hose. The bigger hose is unhooked but I don't see where it goes? Wouldn't it have to be connected to the main fuel line?

I have been watching your videos for sometime and I would like to say I really enjoy them. I have a 1979 55HP Short Shaft Johnson I will be using for my boat that I am building. I plan on installing a permanent gas tank and the fuel line wont be easy to access. Do you see any reason why it would be a bad idea to remove the primer bulb and install one of these instead? I would tie it into the ignition choke wire so that the pump would only run when the key is pushed in. Thanks, Tom

One could argue that an electric fuel pump is less reliable than the bulb. You're still going to have something in-line, pump or bulb won't make a difference. Also, in the event of a fuel pump failure, you can use the bulb as a manual fuel pump; you cannot with your proposed setup.
@MrTmlp103 Жыл бұрын
Okay thanks for the quick reply and advice. Sound like I should just leave the setup as is.

Hi, I just bought an Evinrude 40. Why can you open and close the valve, why can you take the black hood off .. regards Poul from Demmark
@BrandonsGarage6 жыл бұрын
Should you loose power, and need to rope start your engine, this valve allows you to manually prime it. If by hood you mean the screw on cap, that is to inject some engine tuner.

Hi, I have a Johnson 90 and I cant typically start it cold but when we spend the day on the lake, the more I stop and start the harder it becomes to start and I have to use starter fluid. Weird huh? Runs fine once started. Could this be my primer? I'm new boating so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Really appreciate your video too. Keep it for newbies like me :) thanks in advance
@BrandonsGarage5 жыл бұрын
Well, its probably a fuel issue. Keep in mind, there is no oil in starting fluid. Keep using it, and you may wind up destroying it. Rebuild carbs and change fuel lines, and take it from there.
@jconger75435 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Thank you for the help.
@135-j7 ай бұрын
It’ll keep getting harder to the more you use the starting fluid Wouldn’t do it on a outboard 2 cycle

Hello What position should the valve be in when starting the engine? I have it parallel to the body of the solenoid is that correct? thank you in advance.....

Yes. But, are you starting via the controller. or rope starting it?

Can you just replace the red lever without taking the 4 screws and top off??? I have an 1993 Evinrude 150 and you cannot get to all four of these screws without taking a lot of stuff off. The lever is cracked.
@BrandonsGarage2 жыл бұрын
no, because the solenoid has a little nub holding it in. Itll break something if you try to force it off

Hello, good video. Question, what is the reason they put the valve under the black cover on the top ? To clean the system by air ? BR KP
@BrandonsGarage8 ай бұрын
There is an engine cleaner and an engine winterizing product available that screws into that valve and injects itself into the system.

There are 2 ports on the bottom the left is for? and the right is for? can you answer that for me?
@BrandonsGarage7 жыл бұрын
Some engines have 2-4 carburetors. Block off one port for one carb. If you cave 2 carbs, each port goes to a carb. Or If you have more than 3, a "T" gets installed and goes to multiple carbs.

I have a 93 Evinrude 30 horse, the two little tiny hose connections by the red lever. One of them is blocked off with a little cap and a zip tie. Is this normal or do they both need to hook up to the carburetor?
@BrandonsGarage6 ай бұрын
Normal. They probably branch off via a "T" to each carb. Some are like this, some are not. Perhaps the engineers felt both feeds would deliver too much fuel, so they went with one. Or someone replaced it with one from a 25HP that was already capped.
@jeffreyostrom28036 ай бұрын
Ya I’m trying to figure it out because the motor only has one carburetor. I got a rebuild kit for the carburetor because it only runs when the red stem is turned a half turn. Thanks
