Rebuilding a stihl 090 chainsaw

I alternate between a 1977 red top 090 and an 088 for all my milling requirements, I set the guvnor on the 090 to 50% and only have to use about half to three quarter throttle when milling. I run a 60" stihl bar with a full house chain on both saws. Although they both make about the same top end power the 090 uses it's endless torque to pull the chain through the wood, and in my opinion is much more relaxing to use than the 088, It also has a better oiler than the 088 for milling. Apart from it's weight, the only real drawback to using the 090 for milling is the amount of fuel it consumes. Thanks Donny for another insightful video, you are a true legend!

Great video Donny, watching you pinch the rod had me smiling - I experienced the same when rebuilding one of my 2 Contra/Lightning's a few years ago. The 1106 series made Stihl what they are today and they are impressive in their simple but effective design. Love them - I hope to have an 070 and 090 one day, maybe Santa will bring me one :). I use my 090 to cut stumps. It's the only saw that makes that job fun.

I have 1 that I thought about parting with. I will say other than a big ole Mac it's my favorite sounding saw. I was impressed the 1st time I buried my bar in a hardwood rip. Never slowed down a bit but it's like Donny said Heavy Heavy saw but it is a bigger engine than my first 2 3 wheelers. Thanks Donny for showing this. No body shows them beast any love

That’s how life is waiting for parts all the parts are all coming all around the world and the local shop don’t have them in because they don’t make the saw no more
