Julian Valentini let’s also remember this is a very high mileage Canadian (rusty) car... Glad someone can appreciate them! Plus idk about you but I don’t mind putting in some work to refresh a car. Don’t want an M3 because it might cost a lot in repairs? Aight. More M3 for the rest of us :)

It’s a fantastic chassis and great base to start on, every car with this mileage and rust will need tremendous work to refresh that is reality.

Apart from aligning the bushing pull tool, it also really helps if you chisel the bushing lip into the bushing, this gives the tool some more metal surface to push against. Another tip: instead of using the sawzall, you can also heat up the bushing housing by acetylene torch or welding into it. Heat it up till it is cherry red and let cool down. The bushing housing will then shrink and you can tap it out easily. Other than that, great job! We have the same rusty shit here in The Netherlands, hehe!

Fun video series to follow, I've gone through most of the stuff you're doing in my past E36 M3, they share alot of atleast similar parts and faults. Just a note, ball joints/bushings are supposed to move from side to side freely, fresh ones just aren't worn _in_ and stiff. It's the from axial movement you can tell if they're worn out or not.

I am doing this now on my 2005. Florida car. Low miles. Only one problem. A big one. We broke off a rear diff bolt right in the subframe! I have a spare subframe just for such an occasion. Had to get new Powerflex bushings. In the end, the car will be better off for the glitch that happened. Just taking a LOT longer. A week. Had to wait for parts. I still LOVE my E46 M3.

hey dude, when using that induction heater, when u get the nuts crazy hot, hit them with some cold water after words, it really does help, ive had nuts that would nut budge, i heated them with a torch and than cold water, and no word of a lie they broke free super easy and spun right off, now this doesn't always work, but i try that before i get it hot and try to spin it off when its hot. i have had great success with it tho. i strongly recommend you try it on a few fasteners. ive bin told it helps because its a different expansion rate and its helps turn the rust into powder inside the thread's, which does make some sence when u think about it. anyways give it a try

We used hair spray (Don't remember brand) and sprayed contact surface of bushing polymer when installing. It acted as a lubricant when installing and a SUPER adhesive when it dried. Bushing install was much easier and would never slip after it dried.

Yup suspension bushings are probably the biggest pain in the ass to replace on any car not just BMW’s, try doing that on the rear subframe on a 90’s Honda Accord it sucks. Like they say you gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette, you’re gonna love that car after you’re done, the difference in handling and road feel is night and day.

I’m in the middle of this job right now, and I can say with confidence that the parking brake routing is piss poor on this car. Routing through the subframe is completely unnecessary, it gets jammed when it rusts, and it prevents the removal of the subframe if you don’t remove the parking brake cable. But it’s jammed and in a tight spot so you can’t get any tools on it. So I just cut the PBC off and bought new ones. When it goes back on I’m routing outside because the next person to work on it will be thankful!

Why did you guys paint part of the subframe before pulling the old bushings? Dis-assemble it clean it up then paint it. Torching fresh paint is not the best for it. ;) And why are you so worried about NVH. Is this a daily driver or a drift car? It seems like, if anything you'd want solid subframe bushings on a drift car.

@kikonkon35985 жыл бұрын
Im really surprised with the shitty job you did... If you have the rear down, sandblast it and then paint it again properly, don't cover with paint just the spots you see and leave the rest rusty because then you will have a rusty e46 that will break in the first corner.... and we will say: what a shame, e46 are rubbish
