Just last night I finished refurbishing a 70 year old doorbell that is nearly identical to how these work. It was a disaster. Someone had painted over the brass body - twice [they even taped the unit off, but then just painted over the tape and left it], the plungers were rusted, the wiring a mess. I used the sum of my KZbin training to soak, clean, depaint and buff it into like-new condition and now that puppy sings again. It only has 2 notes to chime (2 for the front, 1 for the back), but it's this mechanism in principle. Once I realized it was the same as the pinball chimes I had no other option but to get it to work. Thanks Ron

Good content. Since I have the same Aztec game, looked at the Chime Unit, all the foam pads were gone like yours. A single hole in the retention post above the solenoid on the long bar was elongated, while the other five showed significantly less wear. Looks like the failure on your machine was just normal usage on that one chime bar that gets the most impacts of the three solenoids..

I noticed the end chime that was burnt up also has the hole torn for the retention bar. That might be why the plunger ended in the bottom of the cabinet as when it locked on it may have just pushed the chime right out of the way

About the chime retention holes. I don't think that the ones you have seen where the hole was damaged were cut. I've seen similar damage to holes that serve a similar purpose or hold springs on aircraft, usually on components around the engine (piston). Vibration will start "wallering" (as you said later in the video) up the hole and as it gets larger it wears faster. Where on aircraft that can happen over a couple hundred hours of operation I expect that chime box holes are worn through by decades of getting slapped up and down by the coil.

Joe or Ron, Most EM pinball games the solenoids are either turned on or off by the playfield switches getting closed. If you look at the EM pinball games schematics some of the playfield switches when CLOSED will turn ON the power to the solenoid directly ( non-interlock power ) while other playfield switches when CLOSED will turn ON the power to the solenoids stacked relay as an interlock power stuck on until the score motors index pulse stack relay opens to kill power or the solenoids EOS switch Opens to kill power? I'm trying to understand the theory of operations

Any word on how the chime unit is holding up? I have a 72 Williams Super Star and two posts of my chime box were split open. On the large bar I did the same thing as you (crimped the ends back together) and after a few dozen games it broke the table entirely. I hear some people add a spot weld and drill a new hole. I plan to make two new sets of tabs and mount them using the existing holes in the chime box.

Mediocre is a bit harsh. Your content is good. Your delivery is interesting, informative and entertaining (to me at least). You could spend so much more time on the production to make them more polished to satisfy any critics who think it's mediocre, but what's the point in trying to please everyone? People's Republic of China is where ALL our companies make the electronics really really cheap I keep begging for Baoefeng to make a phase 2 Digital Simulcast trunking all frequencies scanner The 900 dollar Uniden scanner costs less than 50 dollars to make, like the Kenwood 700 dollar quad band ham radio costs 20 dollars and Baoefeng sells the radio for less than 30 dollars. Really hoping to get support from people who are like me and want a low cost digital scanner to corner the market and take it away from Uniden who has had a monopoly forever
