Molly, YOU are "my people". ❤ Thank you so much for this content. At 75 I feel absolutely blessed to have come across your channel . I relate so much to this discussion! The awestruck horsey girl in me is present more and more! I feel like I am reverting back to my true self!

3 1/2 years ago I had an accident and fractured one of my vertebrae. The saddle was not cinched tight enough during a lesson. I have thought about how I should have stopped and dismounted before it was too late, as I knew it was sliding slowly. The fact that I was taking a lesson, I somehow expected to have the instructor come to the rescue before the situation unfolded and have discovered that, that is my issue of not taking control and expecting to get help from other people or "cowboying up." I haven't figured out where that mentality originated as of yet. Is that considered "Learned Helplessness?" After listening to this podcast, I am so grateful for you and your guests and what they had to say. Thank you so much.

WOW, just listened to your feelings, MOLLY, and your understanding about fear & anxiety. Light bulb moment, which so far this discussion is bring so many. Another Michelle & yourself directing to find that fellow riders that support this journey. Honestly, up here in the NW those are still pretty difficult to find. I do have one would like to find others but then again DO I? Love this.🥰 This is viewed on August 9th by the way

There is nothing you can do where there is not a risk of being hurt. I've recently been looking up statistics for different things we do - drive a car; water ski; snow ski; ride a bicycle, etc. It is amazing how many injuries there are every day of the year for each and every activity. Finding a way to regain our confidence is a great topic. Thanks for doing this.

Thank you so much ladies! I just had a fall this past Saturday. Physically, not the worst, I have ever had, but found myself feeling emotionally crushed. This conversation makes me feel less lonely and has given me positive thoughts on the whole situation as apposed to all the self loathing I have done the past few days

Thank you for this. I am a lifelong horsewoman who just purchased a young mule who dumped me causing a very severe concussion. Have not ridden since then.

No crocheting or stamp collecting, real live beautiful, wonderful animals. :) After a lacerated liver, I too had to rebuild and rethink. Thank you for this Molly.

Great offering to the horse community, Molly. Want to share something that my husband shared with me recently ( yesterday) when I had an unexpected dismount from my mare. It made no sense. Same trail that we ridden for 18 years. My husband is a retired equine veterinarian. He said, “They’re horses.” No matter how strong our bond. There is that underlying fact. Often they do not mean us harm…it is just what they do. No amount of training and relationship bonding can really overstep their basic instincts. I think for my mare that she was just saying that saddle is not shifting the right way. Let’s change that. Oops…why are you laying on the ground? Fortunately I could walk her home. But she kept acting like Uh-oh! But I knew after 18 years with no bucks that there had to be a reason. Maybe it was pain… could be fear or attitude. But hey! She is a horse. Things happen…as you were all talking about make choices. I am 72…very sore and bed ridden right now. But let’s see. Fearful? Wrong word. Cautious fits. How do I want to spend my remaining years? That thud to ground reminded me of other experiences. Not a good feel. There is always so many activities to spend time with my mare-in hand, liberty, ground work, horse tricks. We will see. Fearful…unfortunately not. Wise? We will see 😉

This is such a great topic Molly. After getting bucked off a couple of months ago. My fault totally. Then getting knocked down by my older mare I feel my confidence going downhill . Working to get over this.

40:36 Yes! So it's: I ride my horse every day, but it doesn't necessarily involve being on his back :~)
