Rebuilding the turn signal and lighting control switches on the Porsche 924. I also install LED bulbs in the factory cluster before topping it all off with a Momo steering wheel. This was a big job but made an even bigger difference in the look, feel, and function of the car.

I put LED lights in my click and oil pressure gage, big difference! My clock didn't work, ended up taking it apart and replacing the two capacitors. Over a year later and still working great.

first off that wheel looks SICK! secondly, I know it sounds cheesy but watching guys like you on here dig into something theyve never done before on their cars and fixing it really helps build my confidence when I break into a new project on my car. thanks!

Well I'm glad the videos have that effect! Anything you see me doing on this car is the first time. Just approach everything as nuts and bolts. Take time to understand how it works and determine how to make it work again or work better. You can do it!

@@tangentsbhb thanks bud! luckily I also have a good friend thats a lot more versed in mechanic stuff than I am to help, Ive torn into my car a few times and managed to fix or replace bad parts and it feels great, next adenture is engine swap and an EFI conversion so this should get exciting haha

That Momo wheel is awesome!! I've used a screwdriver bit heated by a torch to quickly melt a slot on a plastic post to spread it a little similar to your application.

Nice results even if you took a few tangents along the way. In my own vehicle "upgrades" I usually regret the tradeoffs that can occur. Some have none, some just need to be undone! I have little patience for 1980s plastic electromechanical devices, you did great.

You need to clone yourself at least one time, maybe twice so the other you can work on the CBX and the SEI. Not that I am complaining or anything like that, any content is much appreciated and fun to watch...keep up the good work :)

When you were putting the dash back into the car i was like shouting at you "hey man, test it before mounting it back" :-) On side note - there is also a version of LED bulb which is not polarity specific - yes, all LEDs are as all diodes are polarity specific but these special "bulbs" has two LEDs inside in antiparalel configuration so no matter how you connect them one of them always shine. But this type is not so common and - as always - more expensive. Nice job - especially on repairing the fragile switches. On completly different note - in one or two previous videos i saw red VFR 800 RC46 - will you make a video about it? Just asking...having same red VFR 800 too plus one red VFR 1200F..being kinda VFR fan :-)

I was for sure a dummy to not test it so I quickly learned that lesson lol. The VFR is my friends bike actually. In case you aren't aware my main channel that I've had for years is all motorcycles. Same style and format of videos. It's kzbin.info

Awesome video and the steering wheel looks great! Could you please explain why you put the dielectric grease on the connectors? Judging by its name, it seems like it would insulate the connectors and prevent them from making proper contact, or am I missing something? :D

Thats just what you use on electrical connections. Silicone grease helps keep junk out but reduce friction

Thank you so much for sharing! It is pitty that you did not explain how to unplug the "upper left" plug. That cost me two hours yesterday, to find out.😀 I did have to remove the insturments first and I am wondering how you did it without this. That would heva been impossible for me. 😲 Anyway, is it possible to replace these LEDs with yomething brighter or with a different color? Thank you! 🙂
@tangentsbhb
@tangentsbhb 2 ай бұрын
I guess I am not sure what plug you are referring to. The speedometer cable was the most difficult for me. The method I showed is pretty much the standard for removal so Im sorry if it wasn't helpful. You should be able to get any color you want but there won't be a kit for it. You would have to source them individually.

@@tangentsbhb Don't be sorry, your video helped me a lot! 😀I was referring to the plug that you are mentioning at 03:13 The one for the high beam switch. The cable was so short and the plug so tight... Anyway, I finally managed to pull this one as well; and in the meantime I have replaced the lighting with LEDs. I did not use LEDs for the turn signal as I guess LEDs are not built for this constantly on and off. And of course I did replace that single bulb by a new bulb and not an LED. 🙂 I ordered a lot of different LEDs until I found the perfect combination of the two different kinds of plugs. I found out that all coloured LEDs are too dark, as it seems that they only put some little paint on the original white LEDs 😞. So now everything is shining in cold bright white. Not the color I was originally going for, but I can now match it to my radio's lighting. Still have to replace everything in the center console though... Would love to show a picture but that is not possible here. 🙂 Again, thank you very very much for sharing!

Hi awesome video, i kinda have lil similar problems on my "brand new" 924/944... the temp gauce works kinda bad (it raise very very quickly to the danger zone...but everything works soo it's probably the gauge or dirt problem?). the temp gauge and fuel gauce "dances" if i put the headlights on and off...soo maybe some grounding problems idk?? And the last one problem, the AC switch like yours doesn't work :( I checked behind ofc it has replaced in the past but maybe again some wiring problems maybe not into the switch, but into the AC motor? If someone have some suggestions just tell me 😭 btw wheel and leds are just awesome!!
