Had a weir spool with the sr5 axle. Took a beating with the 4AC clutch dumps and all. Swapped in a 4age 20v blacktop and one pull it broke off the teeth on the ring gear.
@GutZ_472 жыл бұрын
Yeah man I've heard plenty of horror stories about these sr5s. I have a spare ra64 Celica rear end, which I hear is basically an open diff, brake drum gts rear axle. I'm gonna throw a weir spool in this one and also convert it to disc Incase this one shits itself
@thatjdmkid8170 Жыл бұрын
Can you add links to the spool and is this for bigger axels ? I’d like to make my diff solid no slip but I’m new to the game!
@mikehawk22453 жыл бұрын
Are new pinion gears or shims and all that good stuff required when putting in the spool? Or can I get away with reusing all that stuff, about to start the process on my spool as well.
@GutZ_473 жыл бұрын
These differentials dont use shims, the actual bearing housing threads in and you align your backlash with them. its pretty simple if you have a dial and marking grease. i think youll be fine, just dont throw a ls1 behind it ;)

I-O GARAGE i’m just gonna be running a 16v so i think it should handle, also thanks for the info!!
@GutZ_473 жыл бұрын
@@mikehawk2245 you should be good! sr5 axles DO NOT like the torque applied from clutch kicks, so theyll snap easy. especially if they have a ridiculous amount of heat cycles on them. for autox and just spirited driving theyll be able to handle fine! just make sure you run redline or ams oil for ur diff!

o you. I'm trying to get in touch with Weir Performance and they don't answer emails. I need some axels that I bought from them a few years ago. I write to you from Spain. Could you give me some information? very thankful

Hows the sr5 handling the rebuild?

dude, ive stayed away from the project for over a year. i finally got a quick rack in from t3, so im gonna start kickin it back in and trying to get this thing on the road before summer!

I watched the video where you made the disc conversion.. great vid btw. Are you upgrading the spool and axles to make it like a gts?
@GutZ_472 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately due to the diff size, there's no mods I can do to give it the strength of a gts. If you can find a rear end from a ra64 celica, those are essentially the same diff and axle size as a gts, just without lsd and disc brake. This conversion works for both.
@LRT6042 жыл бұрын
@@GutZ_47 I'm swapping a sr5 rear end to my car. I'm doing the rear disc brake swap. And I might do this spool. I'm only looking to make 180 to 220 hp top. I guess that's all I will need
@GutZ_472 жыл бұрын
@@LRT604 oh man, just don't get crazy with clutch dumps or doing burnouts/drifts. I've read on forums of these breaking under stock 4age power. As long as your not abusive it should work.

@@GutZ_47 I'm not drifting the car. Maybe a parking lot fun slide but nothing major. This is my weekend toy. Highway pull and backroads warrior. Nothing crazy
