Hi mate. My car's engine has failed and I have to do an overhaul as well. So if you don't mind, may I ask you around how much you spent to do the engine rebuild and share with me where I can get the kit for an overhaul
@spencerhulme1203 Жыл бұрын
I can see from the video you seemed distraught and upset and i would have been myself, you love you car! you make great BMW content, and explain in ways better the most 200k subscriber videos. I have an e92 320D M Sport on a 2007 plate, nothing but preventative maintenance, had my engine rebuilt after a timing chain jumped but it was under insurance and then had the Clutch done, then spent an additional £7000 on parts and labour, love my car too buddy. But i wish i lived closer because i wish i had your knowledge as a benefit to better my own to fix my car more!

this comment made my day, thank you. i always believe that the more you take care of the car, the more it will take care of you, lots of people, especially in south africa, like to go for the cheapest way out and ultimately pay the price in the long run, which is why i like to give out as much info as possible to educate the community 😁

Hi are there any plans to release part 2?
@Realpreshaanb6 ай бұрын
Putting it bluntly, not really, i mean this was done almost 2 years ago and when you're in an environment where a car parked in a bay for long periods of time isn't bringing in money, so i got everything done and captured as much as i could... Probably not the answer that you were expecting but I do have a spare motor with a damaged crank and damaged pistons that i want to eventually rebuild. That would probably be a very in depth video
@cidmonfernandes40 Жыл бұрын
Hi bro, when you were removing the pistons did you have to remove the subframe and the steering rack? Thanks in advance.
@Realpreshaanb Жыл бұрын
Hi, yes i did, in order to remove the sump and get access to the bottom end, you will need to drop the subframe, not completely removed out of the car but just enough to remove the sump, so you will need an engine support bar to hold the engine up while you drop the frame and work with the bottom end🙏🏼

all the damage inside the cilinder 2 was caused by a manifold swirl flap . thats the only thing what can get into the combustion chamber . i have same problem with starting as u had before this video. later edit : late-on i saw that you did showed the flap broke. anyway , usually this is the main problem that cause this. not timing chain . only N47 had this problemm . hope ur engine runs clean now , cheers!

Hi. I was watching your video as I’m doing a rebuild on my E60 with M47 engine as well and I ended up removing the crankshaft and discovered the main bearings are very bad, but the crankshaft seems to be in a good shape. Now I’m after some new main bearings and con rods but I’m confused as on the RealOem they mention about different colours (sizes) on each bearing, although on eBay the main bearing set doesm’t seem to follow the colour guidance. I did rebuilt two years ago an N47 and used some Apex bearings and rings and the engine is still running great. What set of bearings did you use for this M47? Thank you.
@Realpreshaanb7 ай бұрын
At the time of this rebuild, i used all standard bearings, ARCO brand. The main bearings were untouched since the only damage was to the pistons since the swirl flap injested itself. So i replaced all 4 pistons and rods with the 2nd hand set, all standard big end bearings and the car was perfect. I didn't follow any colour code since everything is all standard sizes
@valentine06067 ай бұрын
@@Realpreshaanb Thank you for the quick reply, is much appreciated. I have no choice on my car but to change the main bearings as they’re completely wore out, as I said. I couldn’t find many videos about the M47 engines, although for N47 are hundreds on KZbin, which is weird. I’m planning to reinforce the flaps from the intake manifold using some permanent thread locker, hoping I will avoid any engine damage. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
@Realpreshaanb7 ай бұрын
@valentine0606 if you need to put bigger bearings, you will need to send the crankshaft for turning down maybe 10 thou (0.25) so its correct... Your engineer will advise you best... As for the swirl flaps, get rid of them all together, you'll be doing yourself a big favour
@valentine06067 ай бұрын
@@RealpreshaanbI don’t have an engineer, I’m doing the rebuild myself, as I said I did rebuilt two years ago my other BMW E60 with the N47 engine and I never had any issue since. About the swirl flaps, I’d rather keep them as they are because I did try on my N47 to remove them and the car lost power, so I had to buy another intake manifold with the swirl flaps in place and ever since the car drives very good. It’s true that on N47 the flaps are made of plastic so it won’t damage the engine if they break, but for M47 if I will check every now and then to see if the flaps are getting loose and keeping them tight, I don’t see what harm it can do if I will leave them in place. I don’t intend to install oversized bearings as the crankshaft seems to be within specs and I did not do any modification in regard to the cylinder head or engine block. My only concern is in finding the right main bearings and con rods suitable for this engine, as there’s contradictory informations all over the internet about that.

Great video. Just to inform you. I made the mistake. Of changing the cam caps. I thought they were wrong. So i changed them over..... cams siezed. E goes on the intake cam and A goes on the exhaust cam. You will see n marking on the cams aswell. E on intake cam and A on exhaust cam. Would like to send you photos of the markings.

Terribly sorry to hear that, send them to me with my email listed on the channel profile and I'll have a look at it... I had them installed the way they came out of my car... Hence why I've included them in that configuration in the video🙏🏼

Everything was done within my budget of R12000.00, All new Parts (apart from the pistons & rods which were used), Servicing 1 Injector, installing a new camshaft sensor and some misc bits that I can't remember off the top of my head and because I've done everything in-house and primarily by myself, There was no labour charge

Cześć. Mam pytanie odnośnie cylindrów, hodowałeś je przed montażem tłoków?
@Realpreshaanb8 ай бұрын
Tak, przetoczyłem cylindry, wspomniałem o tym w filmie. Cylindry nie zostały powtórnie wiercone i wciąż używają standardowych tłoków o standardowych rozmiarach. (Translated Via ChatGPT)

Hi! Great work! How many miles have u done since the rebuild, is it giving you any problems? I am wondering if buying hastings piston rings also in my m47 and want to know people experiences with them! Thanks in advice!!

I've done roughly 10 000Km which works out to just over 6000Miles and all in all its going very well... Hastings rings are one of the best and are what we use as our go-to in the workshop

Get the EGR removed via an ECU remap. That will stop the carbon build up in the manifold/swirl-flaps. Also remove the swirl-flaps, if not every 75k miles replace BUT get EGR remapped out…

@Realpreshaanb Жыл бұрын
there can be a lot of contributing factors that will lead to chain failure. I've yet to see an M47 with a snapped chain as these are quite strong unless something caused it to snap.

The swirl flaps (BMW Group) should be liable in my estimation! All BMW have a Recalls page for every country you should check to see if their are any recalls on your model. The do the servicing if their is an issue listed an pay for the repair.
@Realpreshaanb Жыл бұрын
according to my VIN, all recalls are up to date, there hasn't been a recall on the swirl flaps, only the ones that were mentioned worldwide such as the blower motor wiring and power cable replacement (12v jump cable from battery to the front of the car)
