its incorrect to say Saturn was less powerful than PS1, on paper it was actually more powerful.. its just that it was more complex to develop for, and required a greater skill set from developers. It also did 2D fighters a lot better than PS1, which is why I love it most!

Correct.

Yes, but the fact that it rendered in quads, did not help as well. Basically all the 3D models and techniques used for other consoles and PC, needed to be customised for Saturn.. I don't think they did not know how to program for it. I think developers, especially those that had good relationship with Sony,/Nintendo simply did not bother.

I got my Saturn a few years ago and I fell in love with it. Never owned one as a kid but I gotta say the unique library on Saturn is absolutely remarkable, I put the Saturn in my top 3 consoles of all time. I own quite a few games like Robotica and Myst or Blazing Heroes but some games are insanely expensive so I will definitely be looking into repros for sure.

These look great; I like that they utilize the big clamshells of the original and the art, and when applicable, manuals look really nice and quality made. With how pricey Saturn gaming is (and the worry of disc rot anyway), this is a nice collectible alternative for those wanting more to play the games than have that "official" shelf candy. Policenauts? SOTN? Tomb Raider--these are stellar picks and so worth seeing in many of their roots and early forms. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I feel like the Saturn Golden Axe game may have been more like a tournament fighter (I could be thinking of something completely different though).

Some get all worked up with reproduction games, but with the price original games go for and the chance a disc getting disc rot, I think it’s a great idea to buy reproduction.

I had pretty much every good game that was a US release (yes even the rare ones like PDS, SFIII, Burning Rangers and all the WD games) that I bought mostly from 97 to 00 along with about 10 japanese imports. I sold them all early in my career when I really needed the money. Even back in 2003 I still made a significant profit on the price I bought them all for, but needless to say I'd be looking at way over 10K if I sold them now or rebought them now, maybe over 20K. If I ever wanted a physical collection again I'd have to go this route with some repros, no way I could stomach buying PDS for $1000 after already having bought it new for $50 as just one example. I'd probably have to spend 5k to even have a small % of what I owned in the late 90s/early 00s. I have really been enjoying the fan translations of the games I was denied in those late 90s/early 00s days. The second and third scenario of Shining Force III probably makes it my favorite game of all time.

Looks excellent mate, I'd love to get a copy of the policenauts has its a classic. I honestly really wish they would just release that and snatcher on modern consoles with the translations, be amazing for a physical to .

I'm happy to have built up a full PAL set many, many years ago - as well as 260 Japanese exclusives. Buy yeah, the prices now are just INSANE!! I do have around a dozen fan translations, but I'd probably recommend some of the other options out there - e.g. Fenrir, Satiator or the Saroo as more affordable options to play on original hardware these days.

Very nice video. I still have a lot of my original collection but the original games I sold, and Panzer Saga is one of them I just got RePros that even include an accurate manual and disk. You cannot tell the difference. I love them. It doesn't seem he offers manuals anymore. :(

Those cases do look good. I have a few Sega Saturn games but the price is really inhibitive. I can run burnt games on my Saturn so there is no problem there but I do like to own the games I really enjoy.

Sega Saturn was such disgrace. It was the beginning of the current trend. The time between 2006-2011 was the best time.

@@8bitsnkboy472 It was the beginning of the end for once legendary company. That console didn't had anything that made MegaDrive great. Saturn was so bad even Dreamcast wasn't able to save the company. Sony following the same path. No games for PS5. PS4 was really bad before the Pro. PS3 was even worse. PS2 had some hits but still ton of potential never used. It all started with the Saturn.

@@ps4games164 Have you even played one? Your opinion is about 2 decades old. It had a lot of the Megadrive franchises. The ones they avoided sold like trash on the Megadrive anyway. Golden Axe 2, Streets of rage 3, and phantasy star IV all sold poorly. The only important one they were missing was Sonic. The real decline was the PS2 and its commercialisation.

No. The beginning of the current trend was the 360 popularizing online and paid DLC. The Saturn isn't what killed Sega. Do some digging. Sega had lots of internal issues.
