Same here! Im from Scandinavia and I feel like Australia is this paralell, tropical version of us. But that's just in my own head. Then when I saw this build with the brighter woods, light colours and open plan. It may actually be similar!

Another reason that Aussie houses have big open plan living areas at the back is when an extension has been added to the back of a pokey 1800s workers cottage. Loving the Australian newcrest builds!

I love to see you back! I'm so happy that you got an appointment with a doctor, I really hope that goes well for you and that they'll figure out what's wrong. About the carpet/floorboards: I live in Sweden where it certainly gets below 0 degrees for months. We almost never have carpet on our floors here. I can't remember seeing that anywhere other than in hotels. We have rugs, for sure, because the floors get cold but not carpet. It gets more and more common though in new houses but it's not in any way common yet.

So interesting to hear about home and furnishing trends in Australia. In Germany, open plan kitchen/living areas are really big right now (I personally prefer a dining kitchen separate from the living room, because of the cooking smells - I hate to have the smell of fish or fermented foods linger in the upholstered furniture...) and we're also all ripping out the carpets that were huge in the 80s and 90s and replacing them with wood or wood-looking vinyl flooring :D

I enjoy your Australia builds Deli and the architecture. Open floor plans are my favorite IRL great for families. Having a mother-in-law home area/home some people do have those here in America. I saw them in Utah when I lived there. I am enjoying the kits they have been awesome and I use them a lot. I think the team have upped the game on the kits IMHO. Hope you get to feeling better. Feel better! I’ve experienced having life and health yanked out from under me with no explanation and years of searching for answers and recovery. It’s so frustrating and depressing in the moment and I’m glad you have wonderful support in your life because it makes all the difference. A lot of people find the “spoon theory” written by a woman with lupus very comforting and useful when dealing with limitations from an illness no one can see.

I'm really enjoying this Newcrest build series with the Australian vibe. I'm from the UK so our architecture and way of living is very different. I also like all the Aussie-related talk as 20 years ago exactly I spent 5 months backpacking round the country, so I will always have a soft spot for it and like to hear what's going on over there! I didn't make it to Southern Australia or Victoria but toured the remaining mainland states so it's interesting to hear about the different types of architecture you have. Really sorry to hear you're still unwell, I hope you get some answers and start feeling better soon. It's horrible when your health does a 180 on you, trying to adjust is nigh on impossible. I have M.E. and this last year I went from being pretty healthy and very active to not being well enough to work anymore and losing most of my old life thanks to chronic fatigue and pain. So I totally appreciate how you must be feeling and wish you a speedy recovery, you must always put your health first!

This is a beautiful build! I have to second what others are saying: I love learning more about Australia. I'm an English major from Central Europe and we never paid attention to the southern English-speaking countries (or Canada for that matter). And it's great to learn about other places through their architecture - it always says a lot about both the history and the current lifestyles of the inhabitants. Take care and we will always be here once you're back.

My Gran's old house, in Sydney, was pretty old, red brick single storey that they added a second floor to when my mum was a teenager. It has always surprised me the way that Australian architecture has gone in the last few decades in terms of the open-plan look - her place has no aircon, just ceiling fans, but the brick is pretty thick and the windows relatively small and shaded with traditional overhangs, and it's really nicely cool on the inside. It definitely isn't always comfortable not to have aircon (lots of blinds drawn for shade, hosing down the outside walls) but the individual divided rooms on the inside helps to keep the heat separated - the back of the house can get quite warm from the sun, but it can be separated off, so that heat doesn't spread as much - which obviously doesn't work with open plan.

Every time you think you have a good deposit, the prices skyrocket again and it constantly feels like you're chasing a finish line that keeps moving away. I'm go thankful parent are happy for us kids to stay as long as we want. We even have 2 granny flats and still have a good sized backyard for my daughter to play in.

When I was a kid (early 80s) there was a show - I don't remember if it was Sesame Street or 3-2-1 Contact, but a show like that - it had a segment where it showed how children lived around the world. I was fascinated by the different houses. I never lost that growing up. I have always been extremely interested in houses around the world, specifically how environment and local natural disasters plays a part in house design. We have homes here along the Ohio River that are up on stilts like that due to flooding being a common issue. Many houses in New England have an outdoor (or screened in) walkway like in your build called a breeze way, and it was a place to sit and stay a bit cooler before air conditioning. So yes, I want to see more homes from the rest of the world, especially if you explain the purpose of certain features. Side note - the segment from Australia featured a family that lived in an underground home dug into the clay. I remember they were pregnant, and were planning on digging an additional room. For a long time as a child, I did think all Australians lived underground due to extreme heat.

I use a nice heating pad or hot water bottle (sometimes I lay under a heated blanket - so soothing). I have a cooling eye mask I keep in the fridge because I get headaches. And a bit of lavender or peppermint oil on the nose and temples. Also laying on your tummy on the floor! It really releases all your back and abdominal muscles that you might be clenching from pain. I hope this helps someone

It's amazing how similar your area is to western Canada! We have the same issues with rising taxes, land costs, inability for younger generation to buy homes. Carriage homes are allowed in many municipalities now. Homeless folks proliferate and the gap between rich and poor is wider than ever. Our builds still favor west coast contemporary but their costs have skyrocketed. Food costs are doubling every week and petrol now over $2 per litter. Glad to be retired, but the limited income really hurts! Sorry to find you've been ill...I too had a medical crisis end of May and spent June recovering. Let's hope we both get better soon ❤
