The whole blasting/cleaning via dry ice seemed to suddenly become go-to thing overnight for so many KZbinrs and everyone has talked about it like it's the best thing ever, but I've had my qualms about it. It was great to finally hear about some of the potential downsides of this method! Besides the issues mentioned, another problem would be corrosion remaining under fasteners and between parts, plus once the corrosion is blasted off of ferrous metal items they're just going to rerust or corrode again if not replated/repainted. As I kinda figured, with these shortcomings and issues, dry ice blasting has it's place as a detailing tool for selective items, but it doesn't come close to accomplishing the spray on restoration so many have lead us to believe.

The reason you got the part specifications with the part itself is correct. The Bugatti manufacturing contracts in the past were comissioned together with the Volkswagen Golf parts so the supplier who built the parts was losing money on the parts they built for Bugatti but gained more money on the mass manufactured parts they built the same time for the VW Golf. Thats why now there are no parts to be ordered from the shelf anymore. These supplier contracts were only in production while these cars were manufactured.

This has been an interesting re-build behind the infamous Bugatti crash. I didn't know it was insurance fraud by the owner. I also didn't realize it was salt water. At least the damage wasn't nearly as bad as Tavarish's McLaren that was sloshing about and probably under/in water for much longer. It's nice you didn't have to tear down the block. I actually watched the most recent episode before starting at part 1.

Blasting in general will eat plastic instantly. Before my back injury I spent 13 years in the powdercoating and sandblasting industry. To be honest I am shocked that you haven't built your own sandblasting and powdercoating shop just for Royalty projects. For those that don't understand besides the special powdercoat gun that statically charges the powder you can actually bake the powdercoat on in your home oven. I wouldn't recommend it because your food goes in there an your wife might blow a gasket but it is just that easy bake time depends on metal type an thickness. Aluminum outgasses and takes more work. I have even powdercoated entire cars 1976 Trans Am 1970 AMC machine , 1965 Chevelle Malibu, Several Jeeps and C10 cabs and beds. Sadly you can't powdercoat these exotics. Carbon Fiber inside a 400-460°F oven would just be a pile of goop. Also Huston yes you can powdercoat the fuel tank. it is alot of work an requires multiple cleaning's of filling it with water and heating it up to cause the fuel that is impregnated into the metal to leach out into the water. The tank is then hung upside down and heated, It then gets taped up blasted , cleaned , sanded then hung upside down holes taped off with silicone tape "No residue"" heated , primed , partially baked, coated in color hot, then resprayed after it cools down more, then coated one last time after its cool then back into the oven for X time for the powder to bake an cure. Just so you know it can be done... You can even powder coat Glass...
