Here a small tip dude, don't make every single bolt tight until you rise down the car on the tire, to do the centre and alignment of the control arm .

Use your jack stand on the arm and lower floor jack so the weight of the car will separate the arm from spindle. Don’t get yourselves hurt doing it that other way.
@kennethcroll69726 жыл бұрын
thats the way i would do it, once the weight of the car on the arm put some heat on and it will pop of every easy
@arlynbreazeale7836 жыл бұрын
Leave the control arms loose put the weight of the car on jack and jack it up and then tighten everything back up ,If you don't the bushings will crack again.

If I were closer I would definitely be interested in this! I live in Pennsylvania! I have an 03 S430, and I love these cars. Once you have one it’s almost like loosing a loved one if you have to get rid of them... I’m glad the process of restoring it has been coming along smoothly. I work at a Mercedes Benz dealership in Pa, and I get a parts discount. But I still have a hard time believing how much luck you’ve had finding parts for good prices!

You don't tighten the tool until the ball joint pops off, you just put some pressure on it then smack where the ball joint goes through and it will pop out with a lot less force.

Hey guys, couple of things... First I really like the ways you show the work being done and don't fill everything with music. Second I'd def recommend a set of safety glasses. Even looking upside and having stuff fall in your eyes isn't fun,believe me I know. Good stuff I'll def be watching

Do those lower control arm rubber bushing, need the car to be at ride height before you tighten up the nut & bolt, you mite need car ramps. You probably did it that way but I didn't see it in the video. Cool video keep it up.
@gmcjimmy35806 жыл бұрын
hey boss now i would fore sure start at 7 k with all the parts and i know you kinda don't count labor but in some cases it might be perfectly justified because you almost got hurt and the person who purchases the car would most likely have had to take it to a shop to have all that work done, so 7 k absolutely boss and thank God you and your brother didn't get hurt. excellent video boss thanks for sharing.

Fun Fact: These kind of E-Brakes were called "Dreckschleuder" in Germany. If you had dirty and muddy feet and set the E-Brake, the dirt sticks on the pedal. Releasing the brake makes the pedal snap back, flinging the dirt onto you. Edit: 11:01 I've said exactly the same at exactly the same spot 😂

Like some of the other folks said, please wear your ppe but fyi if you strike the knuckle with a hammer it should pop out in a safer manner as the ball joint had a tapered shaft. That,s just my two bits talking with my journeyman millwright hat on lol

If anyone is doing this, I did this on a c240, both upper and lower control arms. DETROIT AXLE from e bay, they are still fine 2 years later. Roughly 130.00 for all four arms. Tighten when car is level!!!!
@Peter-pv8xx5 жыл бұрын
When separating ball joints don't remove the nut completely, if you use that tool again, or even using a pickle fork, this way the joint will break loose and the tool won't go flying then remove the nut and the tool.
@rgbigdog3 жыл бұрын
As you tighten the joint separator tap the joint every now and then after a few turns of the bolt the vibrations from the tapping will help free the joint and what happen to you will not happen again if you do it like I said.

What I do when replacing ball joints is to losen the nuts just a little and put some WD40 1 week prior of doing the actual job, and drive the car around. That will losen the ball joints by itself. That has work for me all the time.

I think know how to be careful even when doing a dangerous job" Moms never stop being moms.

When you using a hammer to separate the ball joint hit the metal right next to where the ball joint comes through the metal. Is is that your making the round hole mishaped so the ball joint pops out.
@fw14216 жыл бұрын
What,no air tools? I’d think that with what you do with cars you would have air tools and the appropriate ball joint fork tool. An air hammer with a ball joint fork would get them off much easier.
@AutoAuctionRebuilds6 жыл бұрын
Who uses air anymore? I use battery powered tools that are superior to all of my air tools that are collecting dust. You can't use a pickle fork on these cars. It doesn't fit.

I recommend getting some service manuals or something because flying blind into these jobs is really not doing you, your time, or this car any favors. Service manuals cut down the time you spend, the frustration and end result you'll probably look more pro when you've got an idea of what a job entails before you even grab a tool.

I hope you used lemforder suspension parts (they are the supplier for MB) you can buy lemforder at most online parts stores...it's exactly the same as the dealer parts minus the Mercedes emblem...if you bought uro parts, I'm sorry, uro parts are utter garbage...it's worth the money spending on quality parts...

Did you not look in the car MANUAL to see how to replace the suspension arms? Maybe you could have done the wrong steps and/or tools. Also why did you use ONE ARM to remove the wheel? You could have used BOTH arms for safety. Lastly I hope you HAND screwed back the wheel because you have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and you need to be able use your muscles to unscrew them.
