If you want to connect it to the PSU itself, you'll need the FLX version of the Noctua fan. Also, for anyone using the 10mm thick fan, I would probably recommend putting some electrical tape or something over that little gap between the fan and the PSU chassis so that air doesn't leak in.

Aditya Aurora zip-tying it is probably a bad idea. You NEED a secure fit, as GPUs do NOT thermal-throttle and overheating will lead to critical failure and your card would 200% die.
@lordhighbinary20064 жыл бұрын
@@d-o-n-u-t I've seen many zip tied fans on GPU, and from personal exp, it doesn't matter how you mount your fan. It matter more on how much airflow the fan you are using is able to generate. Basically you want a fan that designed more for pushing air through radiators not for case airflow (there are always exceptions, but that's the general rule). Ive seen cases where ziptied fans do BETTER then the stock fan. Where the problem comes in is making sure the aftermarket fans are not running too slow (or can self adjust) based on gpu temps. But that's my 2c, do with it as you see fit.
@Leonsimages4 жыл бұрын
@@lordhighbinary2006 actually there have been a lot of ppl in r/sffpc doing the noctua fan swap on the MSI or Gigabyte Mini cards. The NF-A9x14 (which does have quite good static pressure for a 92mm fan) fits into the stock shroud and you can use a 4-pin to VGA adapter to connect it to the fan header on the GPU. Thermals are supposedly about the same while it is way quieter.

While Noctua is silent, it doesn't move nearly as much air as fans those noisy fans that usually go into FLEX power supplies. There are few industrial fans made by Delta and Sunon which are much quieter than stock fans, while moving more air than Noctua. A best of both, in a way... Probably the best PSU you can use in a case like this is Enhance ENP-7660B, a 600W Platinum rated PSU (so, beastly for that size), which is pretty quiet too (for a FLEX PSU). The best alternative if your components are not powerhungry is the HD PLEX mentioned in the video...

For sure, I have the Enhance 7660b in my 4L case powering a Ryzen 7700 + RTX 4060 LP and its fan is completely inaudible even under full load
@KrisYadao4 жыл бұрын
I was able to get the 20mm noctua to work with the flex ATX. I bent the fan cage on the case inward and mounted the fan flush on the exterior. I then closed the gaps left where the old fan would have been with some kapton tape. There was barely enough clearance in front of the power button after I rerouted the cables, but it spins without interference. I also ran a temperature sensor from the motherboard header into the PSU and hooked the noctua to a mobo header. This way I can control the PSU fan based on the internal temp of the PSU itself. It idles at 35c and peaks at 50c under load.

Emil Bøilerehauge why do you need 200 more watts though? The ENP is $65 more than the FSP 400w and $35 more than the FSP 500w so it just seems like a lot to pay for watts you don’t need and a quieter fan.

Another thing that can be done is choosing a different PSU. I'm currently testing the Seasonic SSP-300SUG 300W Gold-rated PSU for "lower power" APU and PCIe-only powered discreet GPUs and this thing is pretty quiet at under 100W load. My next test will be to move up to a 1050ti and finally a 1650 Super. Those FSP flex-ATX PSUs have annoying acoustics because of their specific ball-bearing fans. To note, the Seasonic PSU has a single 12V rail rated at 25A (But has no 6 or 8-pin PCIe power). The topology is different from the FSP models with dual 12V rails. Another thing to consider is the total power consumption of the system. Trying to eke out 200W+ peak power consumption from a flex-ATX PSU without dramatically increased acoustics may be asking too much from it, no matter what the PSU is rated for. Yes, I plan on ultimately building out on a Velka 3 or a Geeek A30. I just missed the last shipment of Velka 3 by literally an hour (Jan 6). They don't get a lot of them and they sell out literally in the first hour of it hitting their web store.

As I had already mentioned in several posts on smallformfactor.net, I believe using the PSU fan as an exhaust is not the best way to handle cooling it. Most Flex ATX PSUs have their only other openings to the top of their casings, which means that the negative air pressure from the fan being exhaust will pull hot air from the system into the PSU in an attempt to cool it down. If you really want to cool down the PSU turn that fan around and compensate for the hotter air in the system by pulling the CPU fancurve up a bit. Ideally, the positive air pressure from both the CPU Cooler and the PSU cooler will just push the air out on the bottom half of the side and back of the case.
