@Neocon Ingsoctrination Mystic Quest had one of the best soundtracks of any SNES title and also was PHENOMENAL when you see it for what it was for: an intro RPG for non-RPGers. It excelled in bringing more people into the genre. If you were a vet to RPGs, it had less effect. I've ALWAYS been big into RPGs and had an open mind when I played it. Totally kicked ass.

Right. 90s they were focused on making a good story. But nowadays it's all about sacrificing good story telling and mechanics for graphics. It's a shame cause I'd rather have an amazing story and good gameplay over graphics.

According to many, this is technically a Christmas game because it takes place specifically during the week/day of Christmas (Die Hard logic). Personally, I love the monster designs and mutations that remind of something out of The Thing. This game may have many elements similar to Resident Evil but to call it 'Squaresoft meets Resident Evil' would be very superficial. EDIT: Nowhere official confirms the alternate ending as canon. Since its an ending where Eve loses her powers, it cannot be the one that fits with the rest of the games, so its not the one I went with, even though its a nicer ending for Aya. Next RECAPitation will be: The Last of Us

Also the third birthday was supposed to come out when i was three. So that unfortunately just makes this game a bit scarier to me. Another beautiful 90s RPG with light action elements. For a Mature-rated game, I'm glad the rating is not a result of excessive gore and frankly immemorable renditions of internal organs dropping from injuries and corpses. I'm not hearing the 'airiness' of this RECAP, though. I wonder if perhaps my hearing is going? This was quite an incredible game, and I'm glad you RECAPped this. I had no idea there was ever a book about this, so thank you for bringing that up. I may have to see if there's an English interpretation of it. For how little time we spend with most of the characters, most of them are beautifully characterized with a handful of traits that impact the story (Also quite compelling in of itself) in meaningful ways. I also love the soundtrack. It is my second-favourite from my favourite composer, Yoko Shimomura. The weapon options are a bit limited, but I did enjoy transferring qualities and upgrades to my favourite pieces or swap to new ones with relative ease, especially in New Game+ when I figured out the nuances of the system. I'm glad you gave a passing mention to the Chrysler Building. Monotonous as it was, it was a very interesting scene and resolution to an otherwise unanswered question. I do wish that Daniel died as a result of his brave actions, but oh well. Even his suit seemed to survive being ignited! :P Jokes aside, great RECAP, and I'll meet you on the next battlefield.

@@Jose-se9pu I don't know if I'd go so far as to call the second game bad, but I think the biggest problem was that the series didn't build upon what made the original so good. They just became totally different games instead. They had a winning formula with the first game, and basically tried to make new Coke after.

I started to love this series because of the second I tried to play the first one and I didn't got the same vibe that the PE2 hooked me, so is subjective which one is good.

So, back in 1999, I was working for Wal-Mart and a co-worker told me about Parasite Eve. I grabbed a copy on my way out after work one day and fell in love with the game. I've been telling anyone who will listen about it ever since. I wish I still had my disc copy but I have the PS1 digital copy on PS3 and I have the strategy guide, which has both screenshots and 2D floor plans for each stage. If you've never seen the strategy guide, I highly recommend looking it up because it does a really good job of explaining a 3D environment in a game to people who, at the time, were still getting used to the idea of playing games in 3D.

Small correction: The ending you talked about is the noncanonical bad ending while the alternate ending you mentioned in text is the true canonical ending. Also, based on the events of the sequel, Aya doesn't actually lose her powers. Great recapitation otherwhise.
@xheralt4 жыл бұрын
Well, her powers clearly became dormant between games. From her standpoint, that would have constituted a "loss", especially not knowing when or even if she'd regain them.
@Ergeniz4 жыл бұрын
@@xheralt Both of you are incorrect. It clearly stated she purposely let her abilities atrophy because she feared how strong they were and isolated her from her co-workers. Which also contributed to why she left the NYCP and joined MIST. She has rudimentary PE skills at the start of the game in PE2, she never lost them just didn't use them.

Oh thank god for this video! I’ve always been meaning to finish Parasite Eve since I received it for Christmas brand new that year. For a couple of years I only progressed to under the opera where the first rat is, then turning it off for my disdain for turn based combat and menus. With the purchase of PE2, my fault figuring it would be advanced and easier, I picked up the original gameplay again and this time got to just after meeting the doctor. Then turning it off and not returning to this day. The story was cool, the graphics were great for the time. I love pre rendered backgrounds like Resident Evil. Wish the gameplay was more like those games and less menus. So in the back of my mind I’ve always felt the need to complete this game to make sense of my purchase. Insert “It’s been 84 years” meme.😄 Now my soul can rest and not become a ghost that needs to finish Parasite Eve on PS1.😂
