I was hyper-aware of my own thoughts. But then I watched a video of Nick and now I'm hyper of my saliva haha. It feels like there's an ocean in my mouth lol

Haha Nick! So funny…once again you are in my head. I laughed at the fly because I have always hated flys; they literally cause a feeling of anxiety in me. Realizing now probably all part of this condition. (Anxiety caused by certain sounds, sights, etc). This video was very helpful as usual. Just knowing that other people know EXACTLY what I experience and they are “normal” people is HUGE. Thank you so much.

Exactly, the fly doesn’t cause the anxiety your beliefs about the fly do.

How do you actually work on these fears then?

I often become hyper aware of my own eye blinks, and up to now thought I was the only one who did this sort of thing. When it happens, my blinking becomes very robotic and awkward until I successfully distract myself.

Through acceptance it will fade, distraction can sometimes work as a short term solution but not long term.

Nick, so what kind of meditation do you recommend for somatic ocd? What about hypnotic meditation? Thanks man for helping us, i have had breathing hyperawareness with heartbeat focus for many years recently it spiked up, its like the brain and body gets hijacked. 😐

I will get fixated on places where I feel pain or tension, and it'll last from days to months, I'll get over it, and it'll move to somewhere else. I've been wondering if this is somatic OCD, but I've been confused because it changes and cycles, and most of the examples are about blinking, swallowing, heartbeat, and pattern based stuff.

I used to have somatic OCD (most of the symptoms there are, I've had them) but now I have it a bit differently - I notice visual things about other people, like hairlines, and kind of how their backgrounds look kinda hard to explain.. However, as someone who has had the "regular" symptoms, it feels basically the same. Have you or anyone else ever come across this kind of OCD? I feel pretty special because everyone keeps talking about breathing and I like had it years ago and now I have different stuff

Hi. Yes I have this! A couple of weeks ago a family member made a comment about a mole on an actors face. Since then I’ve been focusing on people’s faces. Then I started blinking as well. (Only when I watch tv and KZbin). It’s really frustrating because I love watching movies! I’m really hoping it goes away as I’ve had it a couple of weeks now. Did it go away for you?

@@Everafter-25 It sounds like we might have a similar phenomenon, though may not be the exact same thing. Yes, what I described at the comment did pass, it always passes after a while, however, it can take a long time. Right now I have something else from the same are, still something about the sight - An absolute nightmare

@@itayabelman1338 that’s good to hear. Yes I think what we have is not exactly the same but similar. Yes I know it can take a while. It’s been over 2 weeks for me now. I can tell this specific one is going to take a while to go away for me. When I’m distracted and forgetting to focus on faces and the blinking when watching the tv, my brain reminds me that I haven’t done it so I start doing it again. So horrible 😔 the more I want it to go away, the more it will stay. I have to try and let it go. As you say, it’s an absolute nightmare. How long did it take until it went away for you?

Hey nick, been watching a few old vids as they’re all so great and I would like to ask a question. So for the last few months I have made great progress and no longer feel fear/anxiety about sensorimotor ocd but I still think about it every day. I don’t mean it latches every day as it seems to have stopped doing that but is it normal to still be thinking about it every day? As in it’s been such a big part of my life for the last few years so it almost feels like I’m missing a part of me (in a good way!) should I stop watching the videos now and just get on with life? I feel they are so educational for me though and probably add extra armour against me falling back into it badly. What’s your opinion?

Mindfullness meditation works if you focus on the fear that you have and you don’t try to do anything with it, just be with it and accept it as it is. It worked for me. Example: I’m afraid being stuck forever. Okay what it would mean to be stuck forever? Can you accept that? Can you be with you being stuck forever? The reason it’s scary, is because of uncertainty, because “If I’m going to accept it, what it do for my life”. But in my perspective, I could say that the best solution is to accept it as it is, even if that would mean that your life is over.
