Thanks for another great recap Oni! Just a little correction regarding 35:45, Joshua was in Weissmann's control but Kevin put a trap on the stigma that would break it if Joshua was ordered to kill Estelle, which they gambled would happen based on Weissmann's ego.

Trails in the Sky SC is one of- if not my favorite Trails entry in the franchise, rivaling Trails into Azure and Trails of Cold Steel IV. This recap was great- as per usual with the other recaps. The amount of love and passion that is put into the franchise as a whole is phenomenal and it truly shines in entries like Sky SC. Upon my first playthrough, it took my for a emotional rollercoaster, something very few games can do. Everything from the artstyle, to the story, to the MUSIC, everything is so beautifully crafted in Trails in the Sky SC.

I still don't get the love for SC. It felt like a retread of FC using most of the same locations, but without that feeling of wonder and adventure of seeing em for the first time in FC. There's tons of pointless busywork that destroys the pacing that should've been set to high gear by the brilliant ending of FC (which was also a slow game but it needed to be, it ramped up the further you got in til the explosive finale). That said SC shows you the Liber Ark which is easily the best part of the game (the lore of Trails is the most interesting storywise imo), plus you get to see a lot more of Ouroboros. I still think FC and 3rd are better though. FC for being the interesting adventure and 3rd for being the best lore+gameplay combo.
@thequincy_2 жыл бұрын
@@Walamonga1313 SC is FC but better in nearly every conceivable aspect. It takes the lovely foundation that FC built and expanded upon it tenfold. It takes characters like Agate and Loewe and adds more depth to them as whole, and introduces unique and outright interesting new characters like Renne, Walter, the other Enforcers and Anguis, Kevin, etc. While I love FC for what it established and The 3rd for what it expanded upon, they can never truly capture what SC did for the franchise in general. The 3rd at the time of me experiencing it closely rivaled SC for my favorite of the Liberl Arc, but The 3rd had a few flaws I wasn't particularly fond of. It's ironic, because you claim SC was a "retread' of FC, but The 3rd is quite literally the exact same, so much so that the entire 50-60+ hours experience is built on the concept of going through all the established places and plot points of FC and SC. Making your complaint about SC seem more shallow since you're not holding every entry to those same standards, but instead having a clear bias. Nonetheless, I love every entry in the franchise, it's just some I feel are better either on a emotional or particularly on a objective level. The 3rd and SC for a while I interchangeably consider my favorites of the Liberl Arc, but decided based off of certain factors that SC was the one I favor more.

I'M FLOORED. Decided to FINALLY dive into more of the series after playing fc a decade ago and then sc on release--and I obviously wanted a quick recap before playing the 3rd! Whenever you play a really good jrpg this first you think after it's over is "35-70hrs isn't long enough" in working my way through all of the games hopefully this isn't a bad inve😢 because buying them all is gonna be triple digit amount of money not including the new SD card I'll need

This is, without hyperbole, on of the best JRPG stories put to pen. With how many great character moments and excellent reveals that are dispersed throughout the game, its hard not to try to evangelize it to whoever will listen. The only issue with it is that, to experience it properly, you need to play an entire other game before it.

Its probably because I'm both in my 30s and watching the story in a concensed matter instead of the full experience, but so far this just screams young adult bargain bin fiction unfortunately. I'm trying to catch on the lore since I just started the franchise on Cold Steel 1, but so far I'm not seeing what's so good about the prequels, just another story of an unlikely couple rising through the ranks of an organization of a country with a hidden agenda linked to an ancient, forgotten religion. Add mechas, a bunch of deus ex machina moments where no one likeable dies, an edgy background to half the characters and a bunch of treasons and we got light Game of Thrones. Which I mean isn't bad, but it just describes 9/10 JRPGs and fantasy animes. At least I'm enjoying Cold Steel so far, again very tropey but I guess the execution is fun, plus the franchise's soundtrack is phenomenal. But whenever I see people call this or that JRPG one of the best stories in the world I just wonder if they've actually ever opened a book since highschool lol.

I enjoyed this one quite a bit. The previous game set the stage for this continuation and this entry mostly took advantage of the opportunity. I have some criticisms, of course, as no game is perfect, but this game did a great job concluding the story of Estelle and Joshua. This also marked the last one I would play because I had very little investment in the story of Kevin, so I apathetically passed the third chapter. Still, I watched that RECAPitation only an hour ago, going backwards through the backlog. I'll rendezvous with you on the next battlefield.
