Great video! Love when you talk horror. Annihilation is on my tbr. I have not read any of these novels but Theme Music sounds promising. I recently read a haunted house story, from the 70s, that blew me away. Thanks for the other recommendations. 📺

Thanks Cliff! I did think of you when I posted this video. I thought you might enjoy some of these. Which haunted house story from the 70's did you enjoy? I'm currently reading The Haar. I'm only 15% in but I am really enjoying it!

@@Danni.Dabbles I loved The Haar, but it gets pretty nasty. 😂I read Burnt Offerings by Robert Marasco. Slow burn but 5 star read for me.

I need to continue with the Southern Reach series, definitely need to do that soon. I hardly ever hear people talking about Summer Sons, I do agree with you on how it ends, that could have been stronger. I'm excited and scared to see where Southern Reach goes from here. I haven't heard many people talk about Summer Sons either, but I'm glad I read it. I loved the supernatural moments throughout the story and the MC's inner turmoil was written very well. Yay! You will have to let me know what you think.

The movie adaptation of Annihilation is wild! I loved the book and was creeped out by the adaptation. The visuals are so crazy, highly recommend if you're game. It might even endear you to the book more. 🤷

@@Danni.Dabbles That's fair! I've enjoyed horror films since I was a kid. I will say, there is one scene in the movie that's not in the book that will stick with you. It's literally the scene I think of whenever I see Annihilation mentioned.

Yesterday I finished How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix which I really enjoyed. I don't watch horror movies but I do like the occasional horror book and your list has given me some great suggestions. 📺

Great to get your take on all of these. I already had Theme Music on my list because of you, but I've just put a hold on The Pale House Devil. I read a British mystery with a living person-ghost crime solving partnership and it didn't work for me, but this sounds like my thing. I'm really tempted My Darling Dreadful Thing, though I might well be one of those people who get frustrated by the slow burn. I've read only 3 horror books all year (!) and even then I wouldn't say any of them was really horror - Sundial, which we both liked, Chasing the Boogeyman, which I liked but was more of a different take on a mystery, and Penpal, which I quite liked but maybe was a mystery, too. I'm glad I've got a few horror recs for when the changing season sets the mood better.

I hope you love Theme Music and The Pale House Devil! You'll have to let me know your thoughts if you pick them up. My Darling Dreadful Thing was a gorgeous story, but definitely not a fast paced one. I would say if you read the first few chapters and you are enjoying the writing and pacing, perhaps press on. I've heard great things about Chasing the Boogeyman and I'm interesting in giving it a try. Penpal sounds intriguing. Is it mixed media or did they take out the illustrations/forums when it was made into a novel?

@@Danni.Dabbles Penpal is told just as a story. It's a series of recollections of events that happened to the narrator when he was a kid. The events are all connected, though you have to fill in some blanks because some things are not explicitly said.

Question: she is haunting; you said isn’t YA and you couldn’t connect to it. BUT the age group the book was intended for do you think they would connect to it? 🎉another person who was confused by Annihilation

That is a good question. To be honest, I would say probably not. I can't imagine being in the situation the main character is in (even as a teen) and only thinking about a love interest. I think that if I was younger I would've hyper fixated on what was wrong with the house, which I think would be relatable.
