During this afternoon's observation, I found that the some part of Merapi Crater wall on the left side collapsed! This incident, according to local residents, occurred on 17 November in the early morning. At those time, Merapi was not visible because of the fog that always covers the peak of Merapi. This material avalanche is not from the lava dome but from the old material on the crater wall. The rocks at the top of the mountain are easy to rot because of the extreme weather changes, the night is cold until morning, and hot during the day The vibrations generated from the volcanic activity caused the landslide of the crater wall!
Today Merapi is clearly visible from the southeast. My observation place is located in Balerante Village, still at a safe distance of about 5 kilometers. For more details, please watch this video till the end!
